I've got a broadband connection to the internet, so there should be very few circumstances my connection should ever be dropped. But for the past two months, the connection was getting dropped every so often, and now it's dropping four or five times an hour. Could an old cable modem be the reason? It's never happened before and the modem is really old.
We can't help because the problem is most likely on their end, or possibly a problem with your modem that they might replace if you call them
I don't see what the need for the rolleyes smilie was. They won't replace it, I'm too far out of the window for free replacements. I wasn't asking for "help," I wanted to know if a bad cable modem would cause the problem. Thanks for your help, tech guru.
Yes, a cable modem could cause it, but that's why I recommend calling them anyways to see if they can diagnose the problem so you don't go out and buy a new modem and it turns out, the modem wasn't the problem.
I'm not sure, but I think you took my comment that "they don't help" out of context. I was directly referring to Marj's comment that I should phone my internet company, and I was responding that they don't help. They have very poor customer service. But yes, all I wanted to know was whether a cable modem could be the culprit, because it IS really, really old.
Just call the ISP already and ask them to help you verify if it's your modem or not. That's the only way you'll figure out, pretty much.
I didn't think Roadrunner was still around. They forced us to switch to Comcast from Roadrunner because they went out of business around here, I think. That was like 5 years ago.
Wikipedia says that Road Runner is only available in the U.S. and was once available in Canada. *shrug*
Yeah I live in Michigan. I'm not entirely sure why we had to switch but I remember we were forced to switch.
