...when all is said and done, Linkin Park have ultimately acted in a way that both surprises and delights. While it’s worth noting that the album’s staying power is slightly suspect (it’s only been about a week since the stream dropped and already The Hunting Party’s share of thrills feel like they are starting to run a little dry), to harp on that seems slightly churlish. Two years ago it seemed that Linkin Park probably had just enough going for them to stay alive, but after proving that they can create multiple slabs of widescreen hard rock that constantly succeed at blurring the edges between bands like Rage against the Machine and Jane’s Addiction, I wouldn’t be surprised if history ends up remembering The Hunting Party as the most important album that the Agoura Hills outfit have ever made for themselves.

Shinoda's desire to make a (rather expensively produced) punk rock record and Bennington's more ethereal electropop segments don't always make comfortable bedfellows, but Rob Bourdon's terrific drumming means the energy never lets up. Cliches abound ("You don't know what you've got until it's gone"), but the piano instrumental Drawbar is lovely, and Rebellion places western pop's "imitations of rebellion" within a global context. Linkin Park certainly know their audience, and here delicately navigate the gulf between their own aspirations and a fanbase who will celebrate the band's loud return to rocking hard.

When they get their mates involved, that's no bad thing: Helmet's Page Hamilton provides some brilliantly old school riffs on All For Nothing, Daron Malakian's head-banging canter turns Rebellion into a riff-fest that System of A Down fans will love, and on Guilty All the Same Rakim delivers the kind of thundering verse you remember him for.

The inclusion of studio snippets and outtakes between songs give things a free-wheeling feel, Mike Shinoda's improved rapping style sound like he's been sent off to rap camp, and Bennington's piercing screams keep stealing the show.

The three-pronged opening salvo of 'Keys To The Kingdom', 'All For Nothing' and 'Guilty All The Same' mix energy, self-indulgence and guests; Helmet's Page Hamilton and veteran rapper Rakim, neither of whom really shine. Outside of potential WWE pay-per-view theme tunes, there's really nothing noteworthy here. Despite the united image formed by the album's title, The Hunting Party is the sound of a band at war with itself. The wholesale lack of identity is kind of shocking. 'War' sounds like it's parachuted in from every 90s/00s 30-minutes-or-less pop punk album you've ever heard. 'Wastelands' is mechanical and phoned-in, even if the drum production is nice. 'Until It's Gone' is the sound of a band that has run out of ideas.

Linkin Park have talked a good game in the run up to the release of their sixth album, saying that they're sick of bands copying Mumford & Sons and Arcade Fire and promising to hit back with some of their heaviest material to date. Members of System Of A Down and Rage Against The Machine have joined the fight here. But while Daron Malakian's appearance on 'Rebellion' packs a hefty punch, Tom Morello's spot is disappointing – 'Drawbar' sidesteps the riffs altogether for a plaintive piano wheeze. However, Linkin Park's other material is reliably heavy; 'War' and 'Wastelands' find Chester Bennington's vocals soaring over a tumult of expensive-sounding noise. It might not kill the Mumford and Butler clones, but 'The Hunting Party' is an energetic effort at least.

It’s hard to fault the intent behind ‘The Hunting Party’. Shinoda is absolutely right in his assertion that modern rock is in a rut, but the solution is not to have his band play at being Black Flag. There are good songs here, buried beneath the weight of an idea.

And this is where I’ll draw a line in the sand: Linkin Park’s The Hunting Party is a difficult, painful, rarely rewarding album. In fact, I would love for this album to be much better than it is, to be something that hits as hard as “Numb” or even Michael Bay-banger “What I’ve Done.” Given all the mumbo jumbo I’ve written above, I feel that my listening experience was inevitably stacked against me; I had to to cope with the raw musical fact that, despite the record’s “conceptual ripeness,” it might just be a caricature of all the band’s qualities that are most difficult to swallow.

The disc also gives guitarist Brad Delson and drummer Rob Bourdon more of a chance to shine, as they are the unsung heroes of ‘The Hunting Party’ album. Delson’s guitar is heavy throughout and the band takes off the reins to let the guitarist break out a rare blistering solo on ‘War.’ Bourdon, meanwhile, stands out on ‘War,’ the album closer ‘A Line in the Sand’ and ‘Mark the Graves.’

You can feel that Linkin Park has invested their soul into this album that is bound to tear the music scene a new one. They’re going back to the hard aggressive roots of their sound, which is always a bold move for a mainstream rock band. More than a decade ago, Linkin Park sold a couple zillion records by making better-than-Bizkit rap metal and collaborating with Jay Z. They've since wandered the emo wilderness, and singer Chester Bennington is now also fronting Stone Temple Pilots. But on Album Six they're back with a retro-neo-aggro sound that would've been too intense for modern-rock radio in 1999. Tom Morello guests on guitar; the mook-punk yowler "Guilty All the Same" features oldschool rap god Rakim. Even pushing 40, these dudes can still bring it like backward-ball-cap warriors hopped up on Mountain Dew and Dad's fourth divorce.

I agree with the remark that "Until It's Gone" is the sound of a band who have run out of ideas, though. God I hate the fact that song exists.

the Song isnt THAT bad but its only my opinion :3

Reviews are also just opinions which can be different. So i dont give a... about what other people think about somehing.

How so? I've only read 2-3 extremely negative reviews of the album with the rest being mostly positive. NME was surprisingly positive for the album, even if it only got 6/10.
