Rap no longer just embodies the vocal style that is used in hip-hop. Rap in itself has become a term used for mainstream commercial use of rhyming. When you listen to rap on the radio, it is not the poetry that is synonymous with hip-hop, it is merely garbage ruling the airwaves. Rap has become a republican concept. Everyone is talking about money, 'doggie dog' capitalism. It's all become 'I'm gonna get mine,' Pure republican. Hip-hop came about as a form of rebellion, and the mainstream is anything but. They're not fighting the system, they are embracing the system. They've been bought into the system. They are the system.
Hip-hop = break dancing, dj-ing, graffiti & rap* = a culture *Rap = form of popular music characterized by spoken or chanted rhyming lyrics with a syncopated, repetitive rhythmic accompaniment. That's what I know.
