I don't know where to start, Psychology is my major. I'm going to start my 4th year now in august but i don't really know if this is the thing that i want to study and work for the rest of my life, i don't know if it's paranoia or what exactly. Do i like it? Yes i like it sometimes, other times i don't feel like this is the correct choice for me
but it's hard because i try to think about other things that i like to do and nothing comes to my mind

Another thing is, i like the idea of being a shrink and giving advice to people, and help them. At the same time, there's so many stuff that i'm suppose to know about psychology that i don't give a crap about and i forget them after i learn them, all of this is making me crazy.

I do like it but i want to know if they are some other things that i can like more than my current major.

Question for all of you: How did you decided to study what you are currently doing?
Have any of you changed majors? If so, how was that experience?

I essentially chose law due to a) my being very good at English, and b) not really having a set idea of what I actually wanted to do otherwise.

I've been lucky because it's turned out I actually do rather enjoy it. Best advice I can give anyone is to add a second major or even degree (I'm doing law/politics), but since you're already in your fourth year that might be a bit difficult.

If you're that close to finishing this major, I'd advise against dropping it. You might as well get something for all the money you've spent.

I became a hairdresser. Biggest. mistake. ever.

I like to cut, razor, dye etc. hair...but if I knew I loved cooking SO MUCH better, I would've never gone to hairdressing school.

I seriously blame my mom, I always felt I wanted to cook, bake and do stuff in the kitchen but she never let me because of her 'everything needs to stay clean and you'll make a mess!!!' problem. I had to pick something after high school and I didn't know what, so my mom dragged me to hairdresser school, and after she asked me if it seemed nice and I said 'yeah...yeah, I guess so' and later that week, the papers were signed.

And now that I'm out of the house I realise just how much I love to cook.

I'm majoring in English. Kind of a broad subject, but I'm not really set on what field I'd want to work in atm.

Sadly, it took me a year in a half just to come to that conclusion.

I love to read and write, so when I was going to school, my major was Journalism and my minor was English. My theory was that I'd write for a magazine (some sort of music magazine, like AP, or a gaming magazine, like OXM) and be a part-time English teacher.

I found out rather quickly that I didn't like the concept of writing based on prompts given to me by my professors. I can't write when I've got guidelines, I guess. I also can't stand reading a novel only to take an exam on it.

My best paper was one where we were told to "write a paper discussing a musical artist you think is influential." I chose Thrice because they are rather influential, and it was the best paper I've ever written. We only had to write about eight pages for the paper, but I wrote almost 25 pages. I had the longest paper and the highest grade, because I got to write about what I wanted to write about, rather than being told to "write about The Beatles." I hate The Beatles. I'd have failed.

I was always told to choose a major that suits what you like doing. Unfortunately for me, they didn't have the "being in a band and touring around the world" major when I applied for college.

I have a cousin who went to college for six years (after switching his major) to become a research microbiologist. You'd think he'd be doing pretty well for himself being a scientist, but last time I spoke to him he was actually talking about applying to become a waiter, haha.

I've also got a cousin in a similar situation. He went to some school in New York which cost his parents almost $300,000 to become a registered nurse but he works at an Applebee's. He could be making thousands and thousands of dollars a year but he's not, for whatever reason.

Enjoying your work is more important than the salary, after all it's a huge part of your day that you're spending at work.

When I graduated from hairdresser school I got quite some attractive offers, I never took it because I hate to stand in a hairsalon all the livelong day, I rather earn less money with something you enjoy doing than earning more but you don't feel right.

    Very true.

With that said, I'd hate to pay all of that money to go to med or law school and then find out I didn't like it.

Myeah, I don't think my parents even know how I feel about being a hairdresser. It was a particular and expensive school, and even though I paid it all back I know my mom will yell her head of if I'll ever tell her. o.o

That's the thing, though -- he's miserable at Applebee's and any place else he's ever worked.

I chose my major because I'm genuinely interested in law, like I love reading and watching court tv, law and order, etc. I've taken a couple law classes that I enjoyed and I also have a personal reason that is motivating me to become a lawyer. My only problem is that I've yet to chose what school I'll be attending, either stay in Fl and go to UM or go to Cambridge so for those of you attending out-of-state Uni, how is the experience? and was it worth it?
