i recently reformatted my HDD and, ever since, i've been copping fatal errors. a lot of them, some random and some permanent. in fact, all my nero programs are down with permanent fatal errors, making them impossible to open. sometimes, explorer shuts down when i open a particular folder. right now, i can't get into "my pictures" without explorer going down. anyway, without nero, how can i back my sh*t up for another reinstallation of windows?
For your explorer problem, does that particular folder (and your my pictures folder) contain media files, such as .avi?
yeah, i stuck some there for a little bit. in eventually managing to remove them, the problem stopped. that file was the cause for that particular incident. but there are more that go unexplained. the other folders that have previously shut down at some point ... i'm not sure about them. to begin with, "my pictures" would go down regardless of what was in it but, after a bit, that wore off. that was weeks ago.
Really? I've still seen it happen. Let's see if this'll fix it anyway: If you don't mind not seeing media (not images) thumbnails, then start > run > regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll To undo, simply run that again, without the /u argument.
i just found and tried this and i think the AVI thing is fixed... but this doesn't help nero or my DVD shrink program, both of which are copping fatal errors. nero, i just can't open anymore (any of the programs) and, with DVD shrink [3.2], i can't use the "backup" function. EDIT: fixed the DVD shrink problem with the help of hijackThis. i'll reinstall nero essentials 7 later and see if it helped that too ...
