http://www.myspace.com/handshakesandhighfives Listen to The Pirate Life Demo to get the taste of how their new EP will sound. Hailing from Granbury, TX—Handshakes and Highfives, Dennis Norman (lead guitar), Greg Joyner (vocals), Zach Filler (synth/vocals), Jose Escobar (bass), Lucas Cote (drums/vocals), Dustin Womack (guitar/programming) have inked a deal with independent Standby Records for a spring 2009 release. Recording to start in February 2009 with producer Geoff Rockwell (Forever the Sickest Kids, School Boy Humor). Also, Lucas Cote was former singer for Sleep Like Vegas another Texas based Pop Punk band that is mainly acoustic (new singer is Joey Veazie [EX singer of Savor The Sky]) http://www.myspace.com/sleeplikevegas (Lucas sings on Chase This Train and Second Chance Dance, Joey sings on We Raced A Fox)
I'll have to check them out later when I've got time. Also, I've gone my whole life thinking "high five" was two words. I'm so glad I've got clarity now.
Why are all these bands coming out of Texas lately? Not that I'm complaining or anything. It's just weird seeing cities I've driven through getting name recognition online. I like the other songs on the myspace better than The Pirate Life. Oh and seeing Geoff Rockwell's name makes me laugh as well (since he produced AVP's first EP last year).
I talk to Joey Veazie every so often and he basically told me Geoff Rockwell keeps producing amazing Pop Punk from Texas, like AVP's EP was amazing.
