Which do you think will be the best FPS of the year? Obviously, the most anticipated games of 2004.

I'm going for Half-Life 2, it will be on the PC and that would mean that more modifications and open experimenting with the games engine. Utilizing so many different mods would be an easy seller on the Half-Life 2 benefit.

I choose Halo2, because I wouldn't be able to play Half-Life2 on my PC.

It makes no difference if Half-Life 2 is on the pc or not, because it will later be released on the xbox anyway, same goes for Halo 2, as it will be later released on the pc. I'm not going to base my decision on which format they are being released on first.

I'm more excited about Halo 2, mainly because the multi-player looks incredible. Although i think Half-Life 2 has the better single player, i cant really decide on that fact because ive seen very little of the single player for Halo 2.

They will both be amazing games.

This is sort of unfair because Halo 2 is only coming out on the Xbox whereas Half-Life 2 is only coming out on the PC. So, in that case, I'll go with Halo 2 for consoles and Half-Life 2 for the PC.

Oh, yeah... and Half-Life 2 will probably be delayed again and won't come out until 2008.

They're both originating on those systems, but like uncle_raj says, it'll probably be ported to the other systems as well.

Actually, Half-Life is going to be on the XBox, too. Just later than normal... Halo 2 may be ported, but I doubt it.

Half-Life 2 gets my vote out of those two, though. But you said best FPS of the year... that could be so many ones. Metroid Prime 2 will own Halo 2, in my opinion ;)

I liked Metroid Prime a lot, but I think Half-Life is the only FPS that could beat out Halo and Goldeneye. Echoes didn't look all that appealing to me, either, not many new features besides the multiplayer I'm interested in.

I wouldnt call Metroid a first person shooter, okay, so it's in first person for the majority of the time, but its alot more adventure/exploration based as opposed to Halo/Half-Life and others, which are mainly action based.

I personelly wouldnt class them in the same genre.

Even though the hype surrounding Half-Life 2 has been immense, I think that the success of Halo, combined with the fact that Halo 2 hasn't been delayed for nearly two years, will make Halo 2 the sure victor. At least, in my opinion.

in my opinion the hype and BIgest fan base of any game, Half-Life will bring in llllloads of doah for HL2, and the fact that it has been delayed and now has the fans crawling and drooling and pining for it, will bring it even more money. Plus with the BIgest mod comunity for any game, HL2 will live forever, much like HL1, which is still kicking strong after years of play, many of my x-box fantic fans are starting to get tired of halo, after playing it non-stop for so long

Firstly. Half Life is not just a FPS, it is a puzzle game as well. That's why people like it. It makes you think, but in a "ahah they got me there" kind of way. Halo on the other hand (in my opinion) is a very unrealistic stereotypical space shooter. I see peeple praising Halo left and right, but I fail to see the 'realism' or the 'fresh, new gameplay' people are raving about.

About a month ago, at a LAN party, I played Halo for the first time. I uninstalled that faster than an Ethiopian tribe guts a cookie factory. get what I'm saying? Halo is very, shall we say, too much of a 'fire guns in outer space because I'm on a flying ship in space' game. Not realistic or fresh in any way.

Half Life on the other hand (which I just played through about the 5th time on saturday), is a very well spaced and thought out game. Not only does it combine great puzzles with fast gameplay, it has an awesome plot that is slowly revealed to the player as the game progresses.

Now, I'm not saying that Halo 2 is going to suck, because there is a very good chance it will be different from the original. All I am saying is that as of now, I believe that Half Life 2 has the designated hype from the original, and will be very successful.

There's one more thing we have to talk about. Console vs. PC. Console sells more games that PC. Hands down. There are probably more console gamers in the world than PC gamers, and console games are more work to pirate. So don't compare H2 and HL2 in sales...

Anyway, I could go on all day, but the heat in this room is killer and I'm just about ready to give in to heatstroke :p. Mmmmm sleeep...

I thought Halo was quite possibly one of the most overrated games I've ever played. The level design was absolutely horrid in my honest opinion. I mean, com'n, even the fanboys of that game have to admit it was extremely redundant in level design. I don't remember what level it was, but when you're fighting to get up to the top of a tower with bridges on each side I felt like I was going backwards because you had to do it about 8 times... I can only go through octagon rooms with bridges so many times before I get fed up. And don't even start me on Library...

There were a few good levels in Halo, but I found that, overall, it left a bad taste in my mouth. The level design was worse then Doom for cryin' out loud.

I liked Perfect Dark more than Goldeneye, myself :)

uncle_raj -- First Person Adventure, FPS, whatever... I still think it'll blow Halo 2 away :) I think they're in the same genre, to some extent, though Metroid Prime is much deeper.

PC FPS Games I'm looking forward to:
    1) Half-Life 2 -- Valve
    2) Shadow Ops: Red Mercury -- Zombie
    3) FEAR -- Monolith
    4) Pariah -- Digital Extreme
*5) Dark Sector -- Digital Extremes
    6) SWAT 4 -- Irrational Games
    7) Medal Of Honor: Pacific Assault -- EALA
    8) Battlefield 2 -- DICE
    9) Close Combat: First To Fight -- Destineer
    10) Tribes: Vengeance -- Irrational Games
    11) Brothers In Arms -- Gearbox
    12) Doom III -- iD
    13) S.T.A.L.K.E.R. -- GSC Gameworld
    14) Serious Sam 2 -- Croteam
    15) Duke Nukem Forever -- 3D Realms... Just kidding!

    * = If it turns out to be an FPS... it may be TPS.

Those are old requirements. It's going to require at least a 1.0GHz computer now... I don't remember the required video card, either, but I think it's DX9 now, too -- but don't quote me on that.

Are you kidding me? Those are huge requirements for a game. And for MINIMUM requirements?! That's rediculous.
