Guns N' Roses - Chinese Democracy Now that it's leaked and easy to find, what do you guys think of it? While definitely an awesome album, it did not live up to the 15(?)-year-hype, that's gotta be it's biggest downfall. Other than that, pretty damn solid, still not feeling the title track but you can definitely hear the old GNR still in there. Slash is not missed, Buckethead did a phenomenal job.
Short of what I hear on the radio, or heaven forbid, I see a video on Fuse, I don't plan on listening to it. Axl is a moron, I lost all respect for the man back in 1992 after the tour they did with Metallica.
I saw this being advertised on the tele today and I'm gonna wait until it comes out, yes I know it's been leaked, but I'm gonna do the right thing and buy it. I can't wait.
You're not alone, I think it's a great album. Albeit not worth the 15 odd year hype but it's still a really good album.
Great album, but it's kind of overshadowed by the fact that we had to wait 15 years and he spent so much money on it. It's good...but it's not that good, IMO.
All I've heard is the song Chinese Democracy and it sucked, badly. IMO anyway. Not even interested in the rest of the record now...
There are maybe 2 or 3 songs on the album that still sound like Guns N' Roses to me. Some of the other songs are good, some are pretty terrible. A lot of it sounds really dated, you can tell which songs were recorded at what point in time. There's some post-grunge sounding stuff on there, some industrial-sounding stuff, etc...I think this album would have been GREAT 10 years ago. I hope what Sebastian Bach said is true, and that Axl plans on turning around and putting out a fresh new album within the next couple years. I think now that he's got this monkey off his back, he could potentially churn out some great material that actually sounds current.
If this album was put out by any other band than Guns n Roses, no one would give 2 shits about it. It's terrible, but the only reason people care is because it's Guns n Roses.
There's like 5 good songs on it, I don't think it's completely terrible. It suffers from overproduction though, which is why it sounds nothing like the old stripped down GNR. Seriously though, songs like IRS and Madagascar and 10x better than the title track.
considering he has been working on thsi damn album for 15 years it should be the greatest thing ever oh well dont like guns and roses that much anyway
Erm, you could use the same argument for saying that's the only reason people are hating it -- because it's from Guns N Roses and people have come to expect more from them. Anyways, it's mediocre at best, I think. There's a few good songs, some things are catchy, but it all just seems so bland.
You make a good point there Ant. I don't plan to give the cd a listen though. I've never been a fan of any part of Guns n' Roses.
It's actually very good. I think it looses a lot in being so polished though. Even though you could say this isn't actually GNR, it would still suit them better to have a less clean sound.
ok, the title track sounds so much like Nine Inch Nails a lot.. Josh Freese (drummer of NIN) wrote it and Robin Finck(also from NIN) is the lead guitarist for the album... so.. life goes on, but when GNR sounds like NIN, thats just plain sad..
The title track doesn't sound much like NIN at all. It's probably one of the furthest songs from NIN on the album, not that any of them actually come that close.
If anything is comparable to Nine Inch Nails, it might be "Shackler's Revenge", but even then, it just has more of an industrial feel than being a NIN clone. That said, though, a few years ago Axl did say he loved Trent's work. I doubt Trent feels the same way. I'm currently in love with "If The World" and "Sorry".
