Pop-punk heavyweights past and present will collide in October when Green Day and New Found Glory hit the road together.

The North American tour is set to begin October 29 in Ft. Worth, Texas, according to a Warner Bros. Records spokesperson. Although an itinerary is still being mapped out, the trek is expected to visit venues in and around Houston and San Antonio, Texas; Oklahoma City; Nashville; Washington, D.C.; Worcester, Massachusetts; Philadelphia; New York; Toronto; and Montreal. Tickets will go on sale in mid-September.

Southern California quartet Sugarcult will serve as tour openers. Their most recent album, Palm Trees and Power Lines, dropped in April and features the hit "Memory."

The tour kicks off more than a month after Green Day release their seventh album, American Idiot (see "Jesus Of Suburbia Is The Star Of Green Day's Punk Opera"). Prior to this tour, Green Day are expected to embark on a short jaunt beginning September 21, the day their album drops, where they'll perform their coming-of-age concept album in its entirety.

Meanwhile, the members of New Found Glory are so psyched to be heading out with the Bay Area trio that they could barely keep the news to themselves while on the Vans Warped Tour, often dropping hints from the stage about touring with one of their biggest influences.

"I remember Green Day came down and played this South Florida club called the Plus Five," NFG guitarist Chad Gilbert recalled recently. "I think I was too young to go — I think I was 12 or 13. It was before Green Day were on a major label, but I loved them because they were this band who were a punk band, but they had melody. They had this energy and were aggressive, but at the same time, you could understand all the words because of the melody."

w00t! The tour is coming to Philly and I'm excited! I just hope it falls on a date that I can go. I would be so pissed if I didn't end up going to this after all the times I've talked about this tour. So, is anyone planning on going? :chemist:

Green Day are IMO the best band of the last decade. NFG aren't bad, but not one of my favourites.
