Psh. If we blow everything away there won't be anything left to be poor.

I don't see this happening. It's not just about aid. First of all, it is estimated that the Third World pays the developed North nine times more in debt repayments than they receive in aid. Africa alone spends four times more on repaying its debts than it spends on health care. Third World debt is complicated by compound interest rates that never let the countries get out of debt. When they can't pay, the IMF tells them to take money away from education and health care. Secondly, what good is aid money when it's put right back into consuming by the starving people? For Third World debt to end, vast amounts of money would be needed to be directly given to develop their native industries, so the country can actually become somewhat self sufficient. I don't see the U.S. making as big of an effort as they should, especially with military spending.

I don't understand why we force Third World countries to pay back the debts. I mean, doesn't that defeat the purpose? They should just be given healthcare and things like that until the countries can afford to support their citizens on their own. Making them give back the money that you just gave them is like asking a blind man if he can see how many fingers you're holding up.

This won't happen. Poverty is a result of the world's constant cycle of money. You simply cannot stop that.
