Damn, on the second run, it seems a different album, now i get the groove and intention of the tracks.
None of the reviews or previews mentioned how smoothly Casualty transitions into Overflow that part is so cool.
I know Overflow will be strange but not this much. I like it alot Stained reminds me of Bastille for some reasons, just a bit and I think I like it more than Overflow, wow.
Stained is a bit Paramore and I'm lovin' it. SECOND LISTEN UPDATE: The startting of the song is so cool.
This is legit the song I'm looking forward to the most, for the sole fact that it connects TEM and HITC, and I'm all for smooth transitions and tracklist ordering
Man, i think my last post here was the week Chester passed away... The LP return took me by surprise, I've been listening to the new singles and digesting everything since then. Here's my review after the first listen: I think the biggest mistake people could make is going into this album expecting a new Hybrid Theory/Meteora. As an LP fan that listen to all the albums i was happy to find traces of every LP era in a single album. IGYEIH, Two Faced, HITC - Hybrid Theory/Meteora Overflow, Stained - A Thousand Suns OEO, Stained, Cut the Bridge - One More Light TEM, Cut the Bridge, Good Things Go - Minutes to Midnight / Living Things Casualty - The Hunting Party The album reminds me a lot of Minutes to Midnight, both in pacing and in its variety of sounds. It feels like an alternative version of LP post-Meteora, with “less hesitation” to sound nu-metal at times. If I could choose the band’s path, I believe this balance is perfect for continuing their legacy. Some things I found interesting: Emily sounds very much like Demi Lovato in some songs, though I can’t recall exactly which ones, but the last track is a good example. And that’s not a bad thing—in fact, I believe she’s worked with Demi before. The non-nu-metal songs flirt heavily with modern pop rock, similar to Twenty One Pilots and Imagine Dragons. I find it interesting to go from 2000s-style rock to what today’s youth would consider rock. In the end, Mike remains an exceptionally talented songwriter, and the band embraces not only its roots but all its post-Meteora work as well. A reminder that LP is "One Step Closer" and "A Place for My Head," but it’s also "Friendly Fire," "Heavy," "Waiting for the End," and "Lost in the Echo." Finally, Emily brings excellent vocal variety. I think very few current vocalists could span from "Casualty" to "Good Things Go." Just two months ago, I thought the band was over, and now I’m seeing an album that celebrates all their phases. May they keep going this way.
I'm glad this album is full of all the little electronic touches that made Hybrid Theory unique Overflow sounds amazing on headphones, really good production. The song doesn't sound like Hybrid Theory but for some reason the atmosphere of this song really gives me HT vibes.
Big win. Beyond the sound/style, it's the atmosphere that made fall in love with HT. Whether it is Forgotten, She Couldn't, Dedicated or Crawling, there is that moody, dark, 90's electronic-infused vibe to the HT era, that I am a huge fan of.
The transitions between songs and the way the album is put together is done really well in my opinion. Nothing too crazy but everything blends together well and it's nice hearing the nods to previous songs and stuff.
I cannot wait to hear what Overflow will sound like live. It's got such a methodical forward momentum that I love.
Won't listen to it unless there is better quality out there. Some of the songs of the leak only have 64 kb/s. I won't ruin my first listen with that. It's Monday, I can wait another 4 days.
This album sounds like a mix between HT EP and The Hunting Party... Cut The Bridge is my favorite along with TEM.
