I saw Robbie Keane's goal again last night, and it looked like Eboue and Gilberto ran into each other, and if that's the case Arsenal brought it upon themselves. I'm surprised Spurs didn't win.

they started playing defensively without retaining the ball and with Henry around...you kind of expect him to score...

Here's a talking point: Will Alan Curbishley actually get another full-time job in the Premiership after he leaves Charlton? I can see him becoming Villa manager if O'Leary loses the job, but I suppose being in good form until February is better than not being consistently good at all. And for god's sake, now that Hiddink is unavailable get Big Sam in for the England job asap.

"Chelsea are Premiership champions again after clinically dismantling nearest challengers Manchester United 3-0 at Stamford Bridge."

I hate to say it but Birmingham should come straight back up, what with Upson, Dunn, Forssell (if he gets a full pre-season he will pwn the championship), Pennant and Maik Taylor staying.

i highly doubt any of them are staying coz the chairman...was it Gold or Sullivan or something....said that they were going to be offloading several underachievers. And i doubt players like Upson and Pennant want to play Championship football when they have a very slight chance of regaining England recognition.

Dunn and Pennant have said they'll stay and Upson signed a new contract when they were already in deep trouble so I'm presuming he'll stay. I think the underachievers he meant were Butt (letting him go back to Newcastle), Martin Taylor, Izzet and Melchiot. I don't think anyone else will be willing to take a chance on Forssell which could work in Birmingham's favour, if he can get sharp now that he's fit.

I bet any of the newly promoted clubs(to the EPL of course) would gamble on Forssell, they can sorta afford the gamble on him. As for Izzet, i think it would be a good time for him to retire anyway, he's in his thirties and with so many injuries, i don't see why he shouldnt...

I'm so very excited that my team, Reading FC, is playing in the Premiership next year. I do'nt care if they get raped 20-0 every game, one year in the premiership (and their first, mind you) is worth it. What a year it's been for the Royals!

Match report: Red Star - Vojvodina
    03.05.2006

    Celebration and a win!

    Red Star – Vojvodina 3:1
    Zigic 6’, Djokic 70’, Dudic 92’ – Kacar 87’

Red Star: Stojkovic (72’ Banovic), Lukovic, Dudic, Bisevac, Jankovic (67’ Mudrinic), Djokic, Kovacevic, Milijas, Zigic (57’ Purovic), Basta, Milovanovic
Vojvodina: Kahriman, Mandic, Pekaric, Stosic (72’ Susak), Krasic (65’ Despotovic), Nastic, Kacar, Vukobratovic, Pavlovic (62’ Petkovic), Dobric, Vukelja

    Attendance: app. 35,000
    Referee: Dragomir Stankovic (Belgrade)

Tonight’s fixture match of the 29th leg of the Meridian Superleague between Red Star and Vojvodina (Novi Sad) was preceded by a ceremony during which individual Red Star players were presented with championship medals and the team received two championship trophies: one from the Association of Superleague Clubs and another from the National Football Association of Serbia and Montenegro.

To spice up the occasion, all Red Star players had painted their faces red and white! Dusan Basta had dyed one half of his recognizable blond mane – red.

It was quite a sight! The actual moment when the championship trophy was being presented was enhanced with a spectacular launching into the air of thousands of red and white balloons and confetti.

Red Star started the match with arguably its strongest lineup and already, just 7 minutes after the kickoff, Zigic put our team ahead with a powerful header off Jankovic’s cross. Red Star’s dominance on the field was cemented at 70’ when Djokic headed Milovanovic’s ideal cross into the net for 2:0. Having let its guard down in the final minutes of the game, Red Star was punished when Kacar scored for 2:1. Sadly, this goal triggered an unruly scene in the East stand where Vojvodina’s fans, who had been stationed in the visitors' pen there, began to indiscriminately hurl lit flares at the Red Star supporters who were sitting just on the other side of the pen fence. Fortunately, police intervened in a timely fashion and escorted the unruly mob out of the stadium, averting serious injuries. The rowdy fans from Novi Sad were thus denied the “pleasure” of seeing Red Star’s third goal. It came in the waning moments of the match, when, after a corner kick, Dudic found himself unguarded inside the box and with the self-assurance of a seasoned forward scored easily from 10 metres.
The referee’s final whistle was also the cue for the start of the final celebration…The stadium lights were dimmed and then a spectacular fireworks display lit up the firmament over Marakana. The players and their fans joined together in the singing of “Djurdjevdan” – one of the all-time favorites of “Delije” and millions of fans of FC Red Star Belgrade on all continents…

On this night, everything colluded to produce an unforgettable experience: the championship trophy ceremony, our team’s dominant display during the 90 (+2!) minutes of the game and the post-game fiesta to remember! More than 35 thousand fans who were in attendance will doubtless agree that it was a truly memorable night at Marakana. Or, as they say, “this one’s for the books”!
