    From HITS:

    MIDNIGHT STRIKES FOR LINKIN PARK

New WB Album Set to Debut with 550k-600k in First-Week Sales

    May 16, 2007

They may have moved on from rap-rock, but Linkin Park’s fans haven’t stopped loving them.

The band’s new WB album, Minutes to Midnight, fueled by the #1 Active Rock track, “What I’ve Done” and favorable reviews from legit papers like the N.Y. Times, is headed for an impressive debut of 550k, maybe even 600k, which would be by far the biggest first week of the year. Blue Note chanteuse Norah Jones’ Not Too Late was the previous topper, with 418k back in February.

Those are very early figures but I wouldn't be surprised to see them sell that many.

If it wasn't for P2P, we might be lookin' at millions here, MTM will never sell as good as HT or Meteora, not because of the quality of hte music, but because P2P is way stronger now than it was 3 years and even 6.5 years ago.

How do you mean the quality? The lyrics are better, the music overall is better. Do you mean sound quality? If so, there would be MORE people going out to buy the album to hear it the way it should be heard.

I think they could make those numbers.

People are bitchin' that it's not heavy and stuff like that, I'm sure they'll draw new fans, but also lose a lot of the old ones. And then there's the critics that take change as a horrible thing and that the album blows. I gave this album a 9/10 on reviews, it's a great album I've adapted to the new sound and have no problem against it. But I'm not the rest of the world and neither is this forum. So we can't let our opinions take over everyone else's.

I dont believe p2p has quashed sales to that magnitude... Hybrid Theory was that huge it had more no.1 singles than a best of album. No one had heard such a dynamic sound before.

This is awesome about MTM though, i didn't think it was going to be that popular straight up - very positive for both LP's future and their new angle.

Critics also bashed HT when it first came out. There is not much different here.

its true LP were called "another Nu Metal boyband" weeks before the release of HT

the critics never realize that this was going to sell 20 million records XD !!!!!!!!!!

but im somewhat unhappy with all of this bashing, its sad when you read someone ripping apart something that you love...

two other lp fans I know at my school (who aren't very educated about the album) both say the same thing: "minutes to midnight sucks, why'd you buy it only has like 3 good songs" so I ask "what are they? what I've done, given up, and no more sorrow?" and they're like "yeah those're them I couldn't remember the name until you said it but yeah." kinda makes me sick that I know such stupid people.

Well, one of my friends has always hated LP, but she came up to me yesterday and said her brother bought MTM, and both she and him can't stop listening to it. So in that instance, its kept and old fan, and made a new one.
    Hopefully thats happening a lot.

I really hope LP releases another hit single or as sucessful as WID, and along with proj rev we can see consistent sales from the band throughout summer. Anything below 2 times platinum should be seen as a disappointment at a buisness standpoint for LP

If they get at least 3,000,000 sold from this album, that would be great. Sales have declined dramaticly, but anything lower than 3 million is not good.

I don't know. I think P2P was stronger three years ago than it is now.

I don't see why they complain? There are 2 hard good songs on it, Given Up and No More Sorrow, witch are harder than there older songs...

In my opinion you need to have a bigger music experience and be open-minded in order to really appreciate this album. If someone is into just one type of songs (hard "nu-metal" ones) and don`t want to listen to anything else, they are disappointed.

On the other hand they will gain new fans. Even some of my friends like it and they hated the first two.
