Too bad it's only a cinematic teaser. I would have liked to see some gameplay footage. Looks good, though. Is Lara pulling some lame Spider-Man 3 "dark side" shtick? :p I'm wondering if this means no mansion.

...I still dream of another amazing mansion experience with hidden spaces and secret areas.

Nobody knows keaton. TR fans over at the official forums and the fansite www.tombraiderforums.com are still trying to figure out why she even did that in the trailer. We're all boggled and trying to create theories on there.

...Which is why this trailer is so good. It makes you think.

I got to be honest and say I don't know if messing with the mansion was a good way to come out swinging, especially for CD's second actual extension to the Tomb Raider series. I can't help but think blowing up the mansion in our first real look at the story behind Underworld is a bad idea. Maybe it's just my somewhat odd attachment to the mansion itself, but I think it's a really bold move that I hope CD can back up. There's no question that CD saved the TR series but I'm just seriously hoping they haven't already shot themselves in the foot. :p

Many people suspect that the reason she's done this is to fake her own death as certain dangerous people are after her because of what she's got herself involved in. In this game the storyline is said to be one of the darkest yet due to the fact that, in pursuit of this artifact she is looking for (thor's hammer) she is actually affecting the world around her and thus putting human life at risk.

Lemme explain that further. The story deals strongly with religion, as to find this artifact Lara must literally open the gates of "hell", except there isn't just one hell and she is exploring the "underworlds" of several different bygone civilizations like the Mayan Xibalba, and the Norse underworld etc. The development team put hours of research into old legends involving mythical 'underworlds' and put them into this game, tying them all together into one cohesive version of the mythical "hell" where sinners go to when they die.

So perhaps since may not the only one pursuing this artifact, she had to fake her death to make someone who is pursuing her think she is gone for good. Nobody knows. There are a lot of theories circulating around...one involving the stone that possessed Amanda in Legend, since Lara stole that at the end of the game.

Either way, it's hard to judge at this point because apparently there will not be many humans for her to kill in this game, but instead wildlife and mythical creatures (some of which they created themselves). So who knows just why she blew up the manor. Eidos/Crystal promises us we will find out when the came comes out this November (assuming it isn't delayed).

Here's some early gameplay footage/a developer diary, as I know you were waiting for it:

Please excuse the pompousness of the promotional team in this of course. They're understandably excited by this game, because this is TR's first true foray into "Next Generation" territory.

Even though it's coming out for PS2 and DS, the next gen version was built to take full advantage of the new consoles, and then the ps2/ds versions are being built completely separate. So it's not one version dragging down the other. They're all being built to take advantage of the hardware they are on.

Holy hell how did I miss this post?

I'd check out that link but Game Trailers always takes too long to load for me. From what I've already seen though, gameplay looks good... as long as they don't try to fix what's not broke, I'm all good. I don't mind so much what the story is about but I do hope it's longer than Legends.

Still though, messing with the mansion... Eh, they better have a good explanation for that one. :p
