From what I gather from the comments, they're fake. Edit Turns out those photos are from this site, which have nothing to do with Cloverfield 2 but are instead viral tie-ins to the first movie.
If you look, they've got a point. Just look carefully: If you look, it appears to be so. That means that those things are actually the parasites. And if you think about it, it's kinda fishy that there's a camera taking a picture of the satellite falling INTO the water, and then taking a picture of it when it's on the bottom. I sense a conspiracy somewhere in the next film... If you visit the site listed, and then enter the username and password, you'll be taken to a page with three photos, including a transcript of something. The image quality's shit, so I'm going to photoshop it to make the text more obvious, and then I'll repost it. Thought everyone might like those little details. EDIT: There also appears to be a blog set up as a viral tie-in to the movie: http://missingteddyhanssen.blogspot.com/ Visit 1-18-08.com, and you'll see a photo of the same man on the site, when messing with the photos. This is actually getting interesting again, even if this is old news. EDIT 2: It's actually the drilling station, not the satellite. Apparently, the photos were taken by a sub from the Tagruato company. Why it shows another sub is beyond me. EDIT 3: I actually instead of photoshopping the transcript, photoshopped the picture of the drilling station, emphasizing the monster. Don't click this if you haven't seen the movie and want Clovie to be a secret still. It's not perfect, but I shifted the lighting a bit so you could see it better.
It's still kinda hard to see, I'll admit that. I'll try to outline it tomorrow, and put the original and the outlined version side by side. I can't do it tonight though, I'm too tired. My eyes feel like they're going to fall out of my head.

I actually think the viral marketing might carry over through to the next movie, and never really quit. The site the pictures came from was only accessible after the DVD came out, because you had to enter a password that was somewhere on the DVD (don't ask where, I forget). I've got high hopes for this, and I'm hoping that the marketing campaign does indeed stay strong till the next film, because... okay, I dunno why, but it'd be cool. XD
I fail to see how what you circled is the monster unless that underwater drilling station is twice the size of the Empire State Building.
It goes all the way to the ocean floor... dunno how deep that is. And the monster's only supposedly as tall as the Empire State building. When it's being bombed, it's far shorter than a lot of the buildings. I wanna see momma though. If that's the baby, how big is mommy?
Consider the fact the drilling station is near the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. There, the ocean is around five miles deep at its deepest point. Somehow I don't think the drilling station is five miles high. It's likely it's barely taller than, say, a five story building, and the submarines are used to bring what's drilled back to the surface. Therefore, I don't think what you circled is the monster at all, because MGP was between 20-30 stories tall, and what you've circled would make it seem like the monster itself was more than twice that. Granted, it could be the "mama," but for some reason I feel that's really unlikely. Abrams said that MGP is the baby and is sort of looking for its mother, that it's scared and confused. If it's mother was still undersea, I don't think it'd have freaked out. Its mother has got to be dead or perhaps was even captured for research by Tagruato.
It looks like the monster, but yeah, there is indeed a size descrepancy. That thing should be taking up most of the frame if it's really the monster. Looks like the visual effects crew screwed up a bit, eh?
I think I need to point out Abrams never said the satellite falling into the ocean was what caused MGP to come storming onto land like the Allied Invasion Force at Normandy. I think the satellite tied more into the viral marketing campaign than to what actually caused MGP to go berserk. The drilling station off the North American coast is what caused MGP to come tearing ashore, not the satellite as many people think. The satellite falls in the ocean nowhere near where the drilling station is. In fact, it's several hundred miles off.
So really, I guess the satellite was just a major coincidence, unless it was sent down by the Tagruato company to destroy the monster. Because in the manga, it says (I believe) that Tagruato is involved with the monster, and I'm pretty sure the manga is accurate in its details. Although, it's shitty and cheesy as hell to make that thing some sort of "God".
I stand corrected. The drilling station was a floating platform and it was sunk, presumably by MGP. It's never stated why the satellite crashes to Earth. Tagruato has nothing to do with the monster aside from that they're the company responsible for the drilling for the ingredients for their drink, Slusho. It's been hypothesized that the ingredients Tagruato is drilling for are what caused MGP to become what it is: A giant monster. I've got a feeling that, after a tanker was loaded with what had been drilled, MGP destroyed the drilling platform (there's a news report on the Cloverfield DVD discussing the sinking of the platform off the North American coast) and then followed the tanker to New York, where it was destroyed in the opening sequences of MGP's attack on New York City, right before it tears off the Statue of Liberty's head.
