As I´m a fan of some female fronted rock/metal bands and enjoy the fact that they blend male harsh vocals with a more subtle female approach or just female voice with fast and/or loud drumming and guitars, I´d like you to tell me some names of female rock/metal singers and then we can discuss their singing style.
PVRIS, they're more electronic & ambient rock though. but their singer has a great voice. One of their heaviest songs: And one of thier poppy/chill songs, and my absolute favorite:
Female Rock Singers are bad 9 out of 10 times in my opinion. However, Female Pop and Country Singers are amazing
Anneke van Giersbergen, who has been with The Gathering, Ayreon, The Gentle Storm, and The Devin Townsend Project, has a pretty incredible voice.
See that's a tough question. Usually when it comes to me disliking vocalists it's simply because I do not like how their voice sounds. Maybe they have chops but if it doesn't sound good then I won't bother with it.
Evanescence is a must, right? I also really like Simone Simmons from Epica, Floor Jansen (one of the most versatile singers I know, she can do anything with her voice) Tarja Turunen (extremely talented operatic singer) and Anette Olzon (poppier voice that sounded good in Nightwish) from Nightwish and Charlotte Wessels (I find her extremely talented and suits very well for Delain's style) from Delain. Christina Scabbia from Lacuna Coil is ok, but not like all the others for me.
But to actually contribute to this thread: -Cassadee Pope (Hey Monday) -Sierra Kay (Versa or formely known as VersaEmerge) -Layla Brooklyn Allman (Picture Me Broken) -Alexia Rodriguez (Eyes Set to Kill) -Lacey Sturm (Flyleaf) -Ann Wilson (Heart) -Karen O (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) -Anette Olzon (Nightwish) -Sherri DuPree-Bemis (Eisley) -Tracy Tracy (The Primitives) And that's the extent of my list of female rock singers I really care about. EDIT: Oh, how could I forgot about one of my favorite pop punk artists of all time?!?!?! -Avril Lavigne
Those are almost all pop singers, except for Anette and Lacey Sturm, right @Blake? If you're speaking of punk, but in this case punk rock, then Hayley Williams from Paramore is another relevant name, although I didn't like the way the new album sounds, they really lost their touch, much more than LP will ever do. If you like Anette Olzon (I love the way she sounds on The Poet and Th e Pendulum, Eva, Amaranth, Sahara, Storytime and The Last Ride of The Day) you should try to listen to Charlotte Wessels of Delain, good songs to listen to would be Stardust, April Rain, We Are The Others (very meaningful song about Sophie Lancaster, an English gothic girl that was murdered) and Danse Macabre and The Glory And The Scum
Not Rock in the slightest bit, but she's brutal as hell. Malika from the Tech-Death band Abnormality.
I hated Hayley Williams' voice with the pop-punk sound. Her voice does so much better with pop. Here's a female metal vocalist from my neck of the woods
