I'm pretty sure this goes in Other Music, because it's got to do with soundtracks, not actual movies. I swear, this is the last thread like this I'm going to make for a while, honestly. I'm just curious as to what other people think, and I'd like to share my opinions. I don't have a set number of favorite soundtracks, and I can't remember all of the ones I love right now, so I'm just listing the 6 I can remember. 1. Fight Club - Music by The Dust Brothers Right after I watch a movie I really like, I always go look for the soundtrack. So naturally, after I watched Fight Club, I had to find the soundtrack. Fully composed by the L.A. breakbeat duo The Dust Brothers, the album is filled with eerie undertones, and driving rhythyms. The Dust Brothers use white noise in much the same way Trent Reznor does, making it seem just as musical as any normal instrument. Each track captures the tone of the film, and has such an originality that I can't even begin to describe. The album is the music I've pretty much been looking for all my life. It's got a bit of a rock edge, some hip-hop style beats, synth riffs akin to dance music and electronica; pretty much everything. Highlights: Who Is Tyler Durden?, What Is Fight Club?, Psycho Boy Jack, Stealing Fat, This Is Your Life (bonus track featuring Brad Pitt) 2. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street - Various Artists There are two versions of the soundtrack, and the one I'm referring to is the Deluxe Edition, with all of the songs from the film on it. Written by Stephen Sondheim, and performed by the stars of the film, each song is delivered with amazing power, especially considering that most of the actors had no prior vocal training. While it's not something to listen to every day of the week, it's an amazing soundtrack to pop in and unwind to after a long day. Highlights: Opening Titles, No Place Like London, Green Finch And Linnet Bird, Pretty Women, Epiphany, Johanna (Reprise) 3. Purple Rain - Prince And The Revolution While this is also considered a stand-alone album, it's also the soundtrack to the film of the same name. Written solely by Prince, with the exception of a few songs, and performed almost entirely by Prince, again, with the exception of a few songs, this is truly a work of art. Almost everyone can find one song to connect to on the album, even if it's the controversial Darling Nikki. Highlights: Let's Go Crazy, Darling Nikki, The Beautiful Ones, Computer Blue, Purple Rain 4. Star Wars: A New Hope - John Williams One of the soundtracks that I always come back to, A New Hope captures the awesome power of the Star Wars saga, and takes you to Yavin along with the Rebels, or puts you near the Death Star, where you're being chased by Imperial pilots in TIE fighters. Every track on this album is crafted by the musical genius that is John Williams, and performed by the London Symphony Orchestra. Highlights: Main Theme, Princess Leia's Theme, Ben's Death And TIE Fighter Attack, Cantina Band, The Last Battle, The Throne Room And End Title 5. Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban - John Williams The last of the Harry Potter soundtracks to be composed by John Williams, this album, like the previous Star Wars one, captures the essence of the film, putting you right next to Harry on the Knight Bus, or on the train with the Dementors. John Williams again shows why he is one of the most sought after composers in Hollywood. There's not a lot to say about this album, other than that it truly is a work of art. Highlights: Lumos! (Hedwig's Theme), Aunt Marge's Waltz, Apparition On The Train, Buckbeak's Flight, Mischief Managed 6. The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers - Howard Shore This soundtrack, like every other I've listed, captures the essence of the movie. Every track on the album reflects the movie in the best way possible, pretty much bringing the spirit of Peter Jackson's interpretation of Middle Earth into your home. Highlights: The Riders Of Rohan, The Uruk-hai, Evenstar, Helm's Deep, Gollum's Song
The Original Nightmare Before Christmas. (First CD ever bought) Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street. Queen Of The Damned.
Garden State The soundtrack for that, handpicked by Zach Braff, is amazing. Perfect for the film, just a well put together masterpiece
I love: L.O.T.R.-The Fellowship of the Ring, The Piano, Requiem for a Dream and La Double Vie de Veronique soundtracks!
