Not exactly sure what they're called, but they're the icons that come up in your browser to the left of the URL, and also in your personal links in your Firefox browser.

Anyways, I like to have my links looking all spiffy in my browser, so when I favorited http://www.ninhotline.net and http://www.nin.com, the favico file looked like absolute garbage. Is there any way to change it to something else? Or am I stuck with what the website provides?

Does anyone know of any other NIN websites with a decent looking favico of the NIN symbol? That way, I can bookmark that site, then change the website address in its preferences and retain the symbol.

I believe you're stuck. Firefox would update the bookmark to use the new icon, I would think...

Nope, I've done that before. Mapleleafs.com has the Maple Leafs logo, but their forums (which I link to) don't. I just changed the address and the icon stayed intact.

No I didn't. I already mentioned that in the first post when I asked about NIN websites that had a decent favicon of their logo, so I could just change the preferences.

My original question was whether I could manually change the icon for my bookmarked links. I.e: Download the image onto my computer, then choose it to represent that link.

Oh, I thought you were asking both. Excuse me. -_-

But yeah, you can't really change the icon manually. Unless there's an extension I overlooked that allows you to do that or something. Sorry.

try going into your favorites folder on your hard drive

C:\Documents and Settings\(name)\Favorites (on XP) , find the shortcut, right click, properties, change icon...see if that works

That's for IE, not Firefox. Firefox saves it's bookmarks in a single html located in %appdata%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\{random gibberish}\bookmarks.html

... Looks like I was originally wrong, you can edit the html and edit the ICON property, but by the looks of it, they have to be base64 data links... http://www.motobit.com/util/base64-decoder-encoder.asp

But I still think the favicon would reload upon visiting the site. You could always attempt it. *shrug*

You're saying that as if IE is more secure than Firefox.

You say that as if using UE is smart surfing.

Using IE, good virus software, and surfing smart is roughly the equivalent of using Firefox with no virus software and surfing stupidly.

    1) Go in your profile folder.
    2) Open bookmarks.html in a plain text editor (not Firefox [or you can open it in Firefox and do a View Source, but just opening it in a plain text editor saves a step]).
    3) Scroll to the code block for the desired bookmark with a favicon applied (can either look at the URL in the A HREF tag or the title further down in the block).
    4) There should be a part that says ICON="[bunch of crazy stuff]" (where [bunch of crazy stuff] starts with "data:image"), copy the [bunch of crazy stuff] part.
    5) Paste this in Firefox's Location Bar and Go. 6) The image in its ac...eplace the current icon address with another.

you say that as if you cant get a virus on firefox

in any case, we could go for days on this....i havent had any problems/viruses/other terrible occurrances that FF fanatics warn us about that occur with IE...not to mention, i like the tabbing system a lot better

it doesnt come with a built in ad blocker, but i got IE7 Pro Plugin which does

as far as tabs, as long as i can open new ones without opening the File Menu, right clicking, or doing a keyboard shortcut im good, i dont need my tabs to be doing tricks and making me breakfast

as far as themes, im good with it matching my system theme, or whatever i have in windowblinds

edit: lol..so i checked this tab mix plus, and it looks like its just adding in tab features which come standard in IE7

IE7 also allows you to view all tabs open, like (called Quick Tabs)
