If your area has been hit hard by the economy, is it starting to get better, worse or staying just about the same? Have you been personally affected by this? Discuss.

This year is going to be over before you know it and I have only seen things getting worse, not better, in my area. It's impossible to land a job. All I have done this year is check for jobs, apply for jobs, get interviews (if I'm lucky), and end up competing with my whole state for some crappy part-time, low wage jobs because "that's all that's available this year". The jobs always go to someone else, no matter how much I nailed the interviews. Story of my life this year.

I never look at my bank account and my bank statements because it's too painful to see. I always have a ball park figure in my head what I have. It's nowhere near what I should have. I did pick up a secondary source of income (playing blackjack), which has now become primary, and I'm doing extremely well with that and keeping my winnings separate from my bank account, but I want to make money the normal way, by having a stable job. I can't put "gambler" on my resume, lol. But yet it seems like nothing will be stable for a long time and that worries me quite a bit. If I didn't live 10 minutes away from a casino, I would be in a lot of trouble.

How is everyone here handling the economy and getting by?

Ever since the downfall of the Economy, there has been a big drop in business, from what I can observe. We had a Chinese food buffet, yet, we changed it, fired a chef and now have a salad bar. Most buffets around here has closed and there is hardly any good Chinese food around (Panda express is fucking not good Chinese food). Luckily , due to our history and willingness to survive, we made slight changes that made us for the better and keep on surviving as the longest standing buffet and Chinese food around. 29 years baby!

But other places are suffering and it is terribly difficult to get a job as of recent. The town I live in, luckily, is a wide variety of middle class citizens. Sadly, its being split slowly into lower and super high class. XD

Everything costs more because businesses are struggling right now, so having even a steady job doesn't guarantee I can pay the bills. It's terrible. Jobs keep getting lost here, and I went through over half a grand in just 4 days. I'm hoping things begin to pick up.

The Philippines economy has never been good since time immemorial esp. now that we all experience Global Crisis. It is much difficult in our part because one of the substantial contributions to increase the Philippines econonmy is remittance from Overseas workers and this economic crisis is affecting all people in the world. Also, Politics specifically corruption is one of the major factors of the downfall of our economy. I'm just hoping that this coming 2010 election would be a start of something new in the Phillippines. I'm not gonna talk how economy affected me personally because it is entirely useless...I'm just gonna whine about stuff I dont have wherein people out there in the street don't even have food to eat or even clothes to wear. This Global Crisis is never new to my country. Like what I said since time immemorial we have experienced this and it's like people were immune to this issue. So, instead of whining...let's just do our part of how we can help other people and be thankful of the things we have. BTW, If you can eat three times a day, you're lucky enough for me.
