Well after being cursed with a 56k for years, I finally was able to make the switch to DSL today early this morning. Unfortunately I'm not quite on the road to breadneck speeds and lighting fast porn downloads just yet. ( :chemist: ). What happens is that, the DSL works really good and loads sites just about instantly like it should. But then suddenly those same sites I was just on give me "Cannot Find Server" errors and MSN and AIM dont stay connected, stating a lack of an internet connection as the reason. I dont know why this is happening, I have everything installed correctely as specified by the instructions. I was however informed that I do not have a 'router' but instead just a DSL modem. Is a router required for DSL to work its best? If so how much do they cost? I know for a fact that my friend had to go to circuit city to get a wireless router for her DSL to work fine, so maybe I need to do the same. It's definetely great as I load sites right away and downloads are fast, so I really dont want to get rid of it cause it isnt working right. I just know that I'm not gonna be able to take having connection problems with MSN and AIM because my friends are there, and of course..I need my friends. If anyone had similar issues with DSL and were able to successfully fix it, please post here.
I had the same problem using a router using a DSL connection, how I would get droped connection and so on, so the router is out of the question. My suggestion is call custmor service first. If that dosn't work then check the modem manufacturer site to see if there is any "pacth" thing to download. If that dosn't work then go for a wirless router preferably Linksys since they have a update that removes droped connections. Actually, don't go for the router. unless it's you final option. The connection drops (but only for a few seconds) but it gets annoying.
It's kind of strange that you mention a router. I had problems with DSL when I got it. We got a router to connect both of our computers to the internet and the DSL worked a lot beter after that. You shouldn't need a router to run it to it's max, however. You should contact technical support if the problems stay.
Im getting the DSL service through my local phone company which is "D&E Communications". The modem I am using is a Speedtouchmodem and it is the '500 Series'. The problems still remain and my friend told me it might be because I have "ancient phone lines". He says to use DSL properly the phone company will probably need to come and run modern phone lines into the house. Could this be the problem?
Well I'm a cable internet user so it's probably different but I have a problem like this on occasion, where my internet just disconnects and won't reconnect. The way I fix it is I just completely unplug the modem and hook it back up, and it usually resests my connectiona nd it works just fine. But I know how that is, where any website will say "page not found" and MSN/AIM will disconnect and say I have no internet connection. Try unplugging your cable your internet comes through and plug it back in, if you haven't already. It's probably a good idea to get a router too, it'll probably help somewhat. ...Lightning fast porn downloads are t3h r0x0rzz. :chemist:
If you're going to get a router, get a Linksys. It's the best, most trusted brand there I believe. Also...this might be interesting to you if you get a router...:chemist:
Ok, does your modem hav USB and Ethernet connection to connect to? If so, what's your setup? Also try: Calling Customer Service and bitching Reinstalling all drivers Calling Customer Service and bitching Unplugging everything and plugging it back in according to instructions Calling Customer Service and bitching Or, if all else fails: Calling Customer Service and bitching
Yeah. You'd think they'd get sick of all the bitching and finally help you. [/b][/quote] Precisely. Everytime my dad's computer does something wrong, he calls the ISP and bitches. Now they're ready to help him when he calls instead of bullshitting him.
NO. ROTFLMAO. That was the problem too, the lady came to service it and said.."You dont have a filter on the DirectTV phone jack." OH THE STUPIDITY.
