All right, so yesterday I bought a piece of hardware that lets me record guitar and vocal straight into the computer via firewire cable. The problem I have is that the drivers are not installing and I have no idea what's wrong. I've done all they say from troubleshooting to reinstalling, and yet still nothing happens. When I install the drivers, the user guide says that before the hardware can be installed, it requires a reboot, after that, the hardware should be instantly found and should prompt a hardware installation wizard. Nothing. The odd thing is that their website states more instructions (than just installing via CD) for Windows XP. The driver update they supply does not go to the same directory as where the CD installed drivers apparently go. I don't know if that's right, because I don't know that much about drivers to begin with, but that seems odd. When restarted, it shows that the driver(s) have been installed and working, yet the program itself refuses to launch claiming there is no connected hardware and that I need to reboot (the same error that pops up if you try to open the program before rebooting). Their technical support says that it's possible these "temp" files that are found upon reboot can be deleted by programs that try to keep out certain types of files, but I don't think I use any of those types of programs. I use a hub since my computer doesn't have a firewire port, and have tried both 6-pin and 4-pin connections (since the guide doesn't specify which works best, only precautions of the uses of each cable). I know my hub works because everything and anything else I connect to works perfectly, so I know it's not my connectors. Could the product itself be damaged? Or am I just missing something? Btw, the product I'm talking about is the M-Audio Firewire Solo. Thanks to anyone who can help.
Sounds like a 1394-to-USB hub, right? If so, it might just be that the driver you're installing is 1394-only, and won't work with a USB connection.
It's... one of those that can connect a whole bunch of things (speakers, USB, firewire, etc.) to your computer, and I have it connected through a USB right now. I don't know, the guy at the computer store told me it works that way. Like I said, I don't know anything when it comes to stuff like this. edit: So does that mean I pretty much can't do anything with it now?
I'm pretty sure the guy at the computer store was full of shit. I'm pretty sure you need to connect it to a firewire port too. I'm pretty sure you can buy a Firewire PCI card for cheap though
Yeah, you got fucked. USB and 1394 = not compatible. Get a 1394 card On a side note, USB is evil...in some cases (read: cable modems)
Ugh. How much could a card cost me? I just spent a load of money on all this junk, so I'm looking not to spend too much... Damn sales people!
