I've got no idea why, but ever since I formatted my hard drive, my audio (as in any music I play using any player) becomes distorted, almost as if it's skipping, when I do something else.

I've got my latest sound card drivers and everything, so does anyone know why the audio would become distorted and start skipping the second I try doing something while listening to music?

I have skipping problems with VLC media player when I try to run other apps (which is just a result of VLC's playback being crap), but other than that I've never experienced anything like that. If you haven't already, try screwing around with your Volume Control settings, because formatting would put everything back to default in there.

I checked my settings and even downloaded an older driver. Still got the same problem.

It happens the worst when I'm editing ID3 tags. The music gets distorted so bad to the point where it'll take nearly 45 seconds to play a 3 second part of a song. Before it never did that.

Hmm...try opening your Task Manager and checking the Processes tab while you're running programs and trying to play music, because it sounds almost like something is using up so much memory that your music playback skips when you try to run other programs. In particular, pay attention to the CPU and Mem Usage columns and see if there's anything with an obnoxiously high number in either one.

Nope. That doesn't do it either. I've got 2 GB RAM. Also I downgraded my Winamp down to the last 2.xx release (the best Winamp, imo) because I thought it was the newest Winamp 5 giving me problems. But it's not.

    It's just so weird.

Try re-downloading and reinstalling your audio drivers. I know it sounds stupid and routine, but you'd be surprised how often it actually works. Now I know if you're listening to an mp3 in winamp and you edit the tag, it will lag, and that depends on the file size, the bigger the file, the more work to do to the header.

I deleted my drivers, restarted my computer, installed new drivers and restarted my computer again.

The audio is still distorted. :(

As far as the Winamp thing goes, I knew about that, but it just seemed to be taking extra-forever ever since I formatted.

I don't know, sounds like I might need a new soundcard or something.
