What pisses me off the most is that, having NOW heard for the first time the live intro to Lost In The Echo, it makes for a much more compelling track than what it ended up as. They had the original demo overlayed with piano, some mind-blowing samples and the drumming on top, and it's wonderful. This is the kind of music I expected from this album. Instead, I get angsty raps and an almost nu-metal structure. This is what I cannot stand about LT. Why didn't they just go with this demo? Did they NEED to convert it into a nu-metal song? They felt like it needed rapping, well, sure, I can envision the "intro" with rap on top. Did they HAVE to go full-on 2003 LP? That's the lazy way out, specially having a superb song idea like that. The documentary, at the beginning, Brad showed Holding Company, and that's the background beat in the intro. Holding Company evolved into LITE.
Apparently, they did a good work with LITE since it's one of the most loved track from the record! ahah Seriously, I just think they wanted it to sound heavier than that supposed demo. I don't see them saying on purpose "let's make this sound nu metal!". It ended up sounding the way it is because that's how they liked it, simple as that.
And the reason it's the most "loved" track on the record is that it sounds just like 2003 LP but with a 2012 feel. Meanwhile... Until It Breaks is deemed crap by most other fans I've spoken to.
UIB is one of the best tracks on the album.. I am not a fan of LITE much, I did like the way the demo sounded a lot..
Until it Breaks might be the best song on the whole damn album. I understand that it's not the most radio friendly and accessible thing, but damn is it powerful song. Great stuff there. I really, really enjoy Lost in the Echo as a fun song, but I'll concede the lyrics aren't very cohesive and the chorus leaves something to be desired. I won't bring up the redundant structure seeing as that's been brought up short of a thousand times.
LITE has it's good and bad moments. They lyrics are little wonky. But the music and the chorus are great. As far as UIB is concerned it is definitely one of the better tracks. I love love love Brad's part.
I actually agree with that too. But I don't think it is the BEST song on that cd. Still one of my favourites though xD
Not at all. BID was not as good as their other singles but was still an 'okay-ish' song. Listening to the album for the first time though I was blown away. It isn't 'Kid A' or 'A Thousand Suns' but it's every bit an amazing rock album. A perfect blend of all the band's styles.
Holding Company doesn't sound as good as the finished product. As a very rough idea, here's what I did using it as a transition piece http://www34.zippyshare.com/v/25963420/file.html
What you did doesn't sound as good as the finished product because it's just overlaying the rap that fits into the right instrumental onto something that doesn't and expected that to "work". Holding Company as a live intro finished product (the video I posted above) is infinitely better than LITE.
