I don't know if anyone can help me or not, but I've tried all over Google and Yahoo and I'm not finding any solutions that work. A couple days ago on my screen, I noticed that my desktop background was just a black screen with all the icons. I go to reapply my wallpaper or change it in properties like anyone normally would, and the real image appears on the tiny display, but when I hit apply, the background is still black, or whatever single color I choose for the background. So basically, my wallpaper won't show, and I can't figure out why. It's not because I moved the original image, because I keep trying to apply the image straight from its location. I've restarted a few times, tried different pictures, but nothing. From what I've read online, it could have to do with memory? I have no idea. I've scanned my computer with Spybot, AVG, and Symantec online to try and find any problems, but I had no luck. I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but I'd appreciate any advice. I'm on a Toshiba laptop with XP Media Center edition, if that means anything.
Have you downloaded anything big lately off the internet? Also you might want to Google Image search for the pic you want as your desktop pic, then click on "see full size" and right-click it. There should be a "Set as Desktop..." option click that and maybe it'll work... Other than that I don't know... Hope you have good luck!
Wow amazing, I just set an internet picture as my wallpaper and it worked. Then I went to choose one of my saved pictures and it seems to work fine again. It's so strange because I didn't really change anything at all. I don't get it, but at least things seem okay again. Thanks for the feedback!
Sounds like it was set to use no wallpaper and the default background colour was set to black. When you set the internet wallpaper it re-enabled the use of wallpapers.
