The Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame has released a list of the top 200 most essential albums here: http://www.definitive200.com/200_list.php I agree with some of it. Maybe not a lot of the placement, but it seems like a pretty good list.
No NIN, huh? Maybe I skipped over it. I think Trent deserves to be on that list. NIN has been on other definitive lists.
I heard on one of my local rock stations about this. They were tearing the list apart, complaining about a lot of the albums on there and how they were ranked. But then one caller called in and was like, "Yeah, I think it's based on commercial success of the albums," and the DJs were like, "Oh...yeah."
:O No NIN? Though its nice to see Hybrid Theory in there, good to see people looking past the Nu-metal label and admitting its a classic album. Now flame me.
I agree with most of the top 10. I don't think it's all commercial succes, though, because Britney Spears and Micheal Jackson would've been ranked very high...
Um Beach Boys in the top ten? What-The-Fuck. And Jimi is 41? Fuck off, Are Your Experienced should be atleast in the top twenty.
why is Kid Rock higher than LP? and how is this commercial success thing determined? and i agree i don't know why NIN isn't on there
Why is Avril Lavigne on there? She should not be on this list. Or any list of good albums. Im very glad that LP is on there! Ive never seen them on a list of the best CDs, so I am very happy about that.
how the fuck did big willie style rank higher then illmatic, it takes a nation..., and me against the world, yet ranked lower then country grammer?
there are a lot of albums missing. some include relationship of command by at the drive-in and kick out the jams by the mc5. and let's not forget the velvet underground & nico. hall of shit is more like it.
Possibly by how many units of that particular album have been sold...? In which case a lot of the questionable inclusions and exclusions make sorta sense.
