I'm still gone. But I want to spread the word on this since it's something I'm heavily involved in (I designed a flyer and will be distributing physically. Only 10 days after its release, the mash-up album American Edit, which pays tribute to the acclaimed Green Day album American Idiot through some of the best mash-up productions of 2005, was shut down reportedly after received a cease & desist order from Green Day's label, Warner records, despite the fact that it was released as an internet only release with no commercial gain for the team of mash-up artists involved. In fact, the only possible profit to be made from the release was a plea from the creators of the album (known only by the shared alias Dean Gray) for fans who enjoyed the creation to donate to one of three possible charities that Green Day have been known to support. Furthermore, the mash-up versions were such fantastic productions that they were truly a departure from the standard Green Day performances and would not compete for consumptive dollars. At 12:00AM Pacific Time (GMT -8) on Dean Gray Tuesday (Dec 13 2005), AmericanEdit.Org will be replaced by a list of sites that will be providing the American Edit album for download in protest to its banning, reportedly by Warner records. In order to prevent server overloads, this page will randomly display only a sub-set of the full list of sites participating in "Dean Gray Tuesday". Each visitor will be shown a different sub-set list of possible sources. By following the links, they will visit the participating site and be able to download American Edit. On 11:59PM that night, this page will cease to function as a "portal" to American Edit sources. Flyer for Gray Tuesday (designed by me): Flyer
I'm surprised that I didn't hear about this. Well, on December 13th I shall take part in the "one day of civil disobedience".
Lots and lots of different people. Boulevard of Broken Dreams is mashed with songs by Travis, Oasis, and Aerosmith, for example.
Boulevard of Broken Songs was made by Party Ben, who is essentially one half of Dean Gray. In case you didn't notice, Dean Gray is an anagram of Green Day. EDIT: Oh and among the artists listed above, other people included in the mash-up are Ashanti, Kanye West, and Queen (Novocaine Rhapsody).
I noticed that, too, but it's not quite an anagram. There's only one A and two E's in Green Day, but Dean Gray has one E and two A's. It gets the point across, though, I guess.
