    Hey everyone!

So yeah, I just wanted to know all of your opinions on what the darkest LP song is and why. It can be from their entire discography, including demos and remixes, so have at it!

For me though, it has to be Wretches & Kings. Every aspect of that track is so dark to me, from the distorted instrumental to the heavy lyrics and intense vocal delivery of both Mike and Chester, that track captures the dark vibe for me perfectly!

Nice thread, I remember asking something like this years ago...

Anyway, in terms of mood and lyrics, it has to be "Part of Me". While the riffs and chords deluge on to an intense and dissonant crescendo while the lyrics speak of with what sounds like contemplating suicide, with mikes angry delivery and Chester's raspy and heartfelt singing parts. As far as I'm concerned, Lp haven't really touched on anything like this since, but it's understandable.

Other worthy mentions musically are: carousel, Step up (mainly for its moody and atmospheric bridge), figure 09. no more sorrow, the requiem/the radiance, Wretches & Kings, Fallout/the catalyst, victimised, until it breaks. A.06, wake, and some of the live intros to various songs are great mood setters.

While lyrically, ones other people have mentioned already: Breaking the Habit, and My December (probably one of the most depressing Christmas songs ever!). As they deal with very downbeat themes.

Breaking The Habit. A techno-pop song about the only way to end a self destructive habit/lifestyle is killing yourself? Pretty fucking grim.

I'd say Blackbirds. I know that the music's not so dark, but the lyrics? Grave, blackbirds, pain, dead man, blood, fever, sick ones and so on? It may not be the darkest one, but I'd put it up there.

Some of these have been mentioned, but off the top of my head...

    Carousel
    Part of Me
Three Band Terror/Brad's part from Until it Breaks
    Across the Line
    Castle of Glass
    Breaking the Habit
    Given Up
    Hands Held High
    Valentine's Day
The Little Things Give You Away
    Blackbirds

Not all of these are particularly "dark" at face value, but some lyrical analysis/knowing the backstory of certain songs helps interpret them that way.

I definitely agree that songs like And One, Until It Breaks, Breaking the Habit, Part of Me, and Across the Line are among the darkest songs in LP's discography. Other songs that I think are quite dark are Papercut, Forgotten, Nobody's Listening, and Easier to Run, along with many others. Those four songs, to me, have dark enough lyrics that really help set the mood and tone when listening to them.
