So I didn't really know what else to do with this story but I found it kind of interesting as Rick Ruben is the current producer for Lp and Corey Taylor totally rips him a new asshole. Ruben produced Slipknot's Vol. 3 Subliminal Verses and Corey was displeased to say the least. Well I let you read the article. what do you guys think? http://www.noisecreep.com/2011/11/23/corey-taylor-disses-rick-rubin/
do bands really have anyone to blame but themselves? I don't understand how the industry works but let's say a band hires Rick Rubin to produce their record. Do they have absolutely no say in what the record sounds like or do they have input and can fire him at any time? if the band didn't like where they were going with the sound, they could have dropped him at any moment, correct? and I didn't watch the video, just going off the question I had.
well I think all the guys in the band had different opinions on him. And Corey has said that Vol. # was his favorite album of theirs I think he just hates the way rick ruben works. know what I'm sayin G
what I get out of this is that people expect Rick Rubin to do something revolutionary, but all Rick Rubin does is try to help artists do what they want to do by giving his opinion...and he gets paid alot of money to do that...I honestly think that if you are a musician that has plenty of albums out and doesn't understand why Rubin works the way that he does, you need to evaluate your mental health. At the same time, this mofo gets paid a shitload to give you an opinion. Overpaid? Maybe. Over-rated? Not necessarily. If you're gonna pay a guy for his opinion on your music, Rick Rubin is definitely one of those guys. I just think that if you get help from Rick Rubin and you put out an album that you love, but don't like Rick Rubin, produce your own shit and stfu
Actually if you'd take the time to listen to some of his more in depth interviews and read a passage or two from his book, you'd see how intelligent and right on the money he is about a vast number of things.
I recall recently him shitting all over Johnathan Davis, only to a couple of weeks later turn right around and say how amazing their self titled was and how cool it was that Korn was still making music 20 years later. the fact that he said the former to a group of his fans not unlike here and the latter to a magazine says to me he'll say whatever his audience wants or expects to hear.
Corey Taylor is just mad because in another 10 years, no one will remember Slipknot or Stone Sour, but they'll remember Rubin's contributions to the industry forever.
if I'm not mistaken that was just over silveria (Korn's drummer for those who don't know) in an underwear ad. I don't think he's ever shit on the band itself
lmao did he? Thats kind of disappointing cause I do like a lot of the things he says but if he's going back on his like say he is I will be terribly disappointed
Rick made a pop-band of our favorite badass numetal band. Shame on him. Corey said the truth. Rick is an asshole.
I don't think Stone Sour will leave much of a mark, but people will remember Slipknot. Whether anyone likes it or not, Slipknot is the closest thing since Pantera to an extreme metal band that's actually broken into the mainstream and sold millions of albums. Impressive, really. About the Rick Rubin comments, Corey's not the only person who's ever said that about Rick, so there's definitely merit to his opinion. Rick does do a good job of pushing bands in the right direction, though. That's probably not worth the obscene amount of money that he allegedly asks for, but I guess that's for the artists who want to work with Rick to decide.
