What are your favorite concept albums? Post why, if you feel like it. My Chemical Romance- The Black Parade (Just a great album, shows that death is not just something to mourn.) Nine Inch Nails- Year Zero (Great look of the future, aside from the Presence actually seems feasible.) Dream Theater- Scenes From A Memory (Amazing musically, the vocals are incredible and the story itself is just beautiful, albeit sometimes difficult to figure out what's going on.)
You could call Downward Spiral an unintentional concept album. Just, the emotions throughout the album, just the feeling of getting sucked right down with Trent. It's heartbreaking, and I feel horrible for wishing I could write like that. Such pain is beautiful.
My Chemical Romance- The Black Parade is one of my favourites. I thought that the story was great in that the songs have meaning both within the story and outside of it. Some people say that AFI- Sing the Sorrow is a concept album, and if it is, then I would say that that would be one of my favourites.
1. Coheed and Cambria's Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness 2. Funeral for a Friend's Tales Don't Tell Themselves 3. nearLY - Reminder It's about this recurring dream Jerome Dillon (ex-NIN) kept having. "When I first started having the dream," says Dillon, uneasy remembering the details, "I found myself at the edge of a very serene, calm body of water. I'm barefoot, and there's water coming up at my feet. After several months of the dream, I realized that I was not alone and that there was someone there with me about ten feet off the shoreline. I started walking away but soon realized that I wasn't getting any further away from it. So I turned around and walked towards it and that's as far as I got for another few months." Unfolding over six years, the dream ultimately led to Dillon approaching the figure, an extremely emaciated woman with long hair. "She was looking down and her hair was in front of her face. She had come up from the water and was covered in mud. I could see all the bones in her chest as she was breathing heavily and I asked if I could help her but she didn’t answer. It seemed as though she was waiting for me to do something." After several more months, the dream would end with the figure extending her hand, Dillon taking hold of it and her pulling him under the water. Dillon pauses before continuing, "It seemed so real, I distinctly felt the water enter my mouth and lungs. I was definitely drowning." During the dream, Dillon was hearing melodic phrases that played over and over as the journey continued. He began keeping a notebook and microcassette recorder next to his bed, humming melodic phrases into it and thus building the skeleton for the ethereal, otherworldly soundscapes that would eventually fill reminder. In the meantime, he was writing songs while on tour with Nine Inch Nails in 1999 and 2000, recording them on his digital four-track in various hotel rooms throughout Europe. Most of these song ideas would eventually be woven together with the melodies from his dream and this would ultimately comprise the body of the record." It's a fucking creepy album, but so intriguing.
I've given this topic some more thought, and after thinking about it, im gonna be the third. Also, I want to add Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge by My Chemical Romance. I read somewhere that Absolution by Muse was a concept album, and, if so, I want to add that as well.
-Anything by Coheed and Cambria. -Anything by Trans-Siberian Orchestra. -A lot of Nine Inch Nails stuff. -AFI - Sing the Sorrow (debatable "concept" album) -My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade -Green Day - American Idiot -Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall -The Who - Tommy, Quadrophenia -Savatage - Dead Winter Dead -Kiss - Music From The Elder -Muse - Absolution, Black Holes and Revelations (debatable "concept" albums)
De-loused In The Comatorium, Frances The Mute by The Mars Volta. Listen to them every day. They're fucking epic.
- Green Day's American Idiot, without a doubt. - NIN's Year Zero and The Downward Spiral. Year Zero is scary how believable it is, if you exclude the Prescence - Mudvayne's The End Of All Things To Come is actually a concept album, so I'll include that. - MCR's Black Parade. I didnt know The Fragile was a concept album? Though I only have one disk of it
For my Japanese Album it would be Asian Kung Fu Generation - Sol-fa Well I dunno if its a concept album but the album does have alot to do with loss and depression. Its a great album. And for an american album its Pink Flyod - Dark Side of The Moon
Agreed, except Pink Floyd are/were British Otherise Tyr - Ragnarok (Definately one of my favourite albums all time, let alone concept. Along with Cornwell's books this really helped open my eyes to the world and our history) aaand Strapping Young Lad - Alien (If you listen to each song seperately they're amazing, but listen to them as an album and it's an experience. Really lets you in to Devin's mind. I sort of look upon it as the metal version of Dark Side of The Moon)
