Colin Brittain from Linkin Park has turned up in a new video from Drumeo, billed as "the world’s biggest online drum education platform". The hour-long YouTube episode, titled "Learning Every Song On Linkin Park’s New Album On The Spot", features Brittain appearing on video to address Drumeo's content director Brandon Toews, and challenging him to learn every song off the new Linkin Park studio album From Zero within a day. This is already an intimidating prospect, and that's before Toews reveals that he hasn't yet listened to the album front-to-back and will hear many of the songs for the first time. The video then features an approximate replication of Brittain's Linkin Park drum kit, where Toews sits, listens through the album and reacts to the songs, before methodically learning them all one at a time - he is shown playing his final takes over drumless mixes of the studio tracks. Brittain also provides insights on the drum parts and recording process on each song, and brief excerpts from this are shown throughout the video. He additionally also later appears on video call to converse with Toews directly and provide further commentary on the songs. Despite the video being so long, it still unfortunately compresses Toews' 7 hours or so of learning the songs down into a single hour, so a lot of his process figuring out the songs is naturally truncated. This is not his first brush with Linkin Park's music on the Drumeo channel - last year, he did a 5-minute video breaking down the drum parts in one of the band's iconic hits, "In the End": Source: Drumeo on YouTube via @Casualty[/USER]
You know, the fun part for me is, as a *very* casual consumer of their content (usually only with songs I know) I long suspected of Drumeo using illicitly obtained drumless samples via like, Guitar Hero. This actually showcases them working really tightly with an established group and their own materials with permission. That's nice!
@Christøffer I feel this video is going to be useful in a very far away future for a certain session thread Dope stuff here, got to find a moment to watch the whole thing. Love those kind of deep dives into one aspect of the album.
@minuteforce do you think they considered Page Hamilton to replace Mike Shinoda at some point or was it only a collab?
Don't worry, Page is definitely still in play. They're just waiting for the right time to strike to ensure that all the clones are neutralised at once
Lol at Colin talking about Two Faced: "Mike played that one and I was like, 'I like that one, it's got like a nu-metal vibe' and he was like 'don't say that!'
“If you’re not smiling while you play it you aren’t playing it right.” There are some songs where I feel the same about singing them, too. I love that philosophy. It’s actually excellent advice.
