I looked for the old thread but I guess it got deleted.

So as some of you may know I spent a good deal of money on 2 pit tickets at my local coldplay show based on to bits of logic:
    1) It's my gf's bday so I really wanted to make it something to remember
    2) Lawn tickets were over 50bucks a piece and I figured sitting that far back wasn't worth 100 bucks but sitting up close might be worth it.

Well now on the radio I heard about a sale they are having, because they must have not sold a lot of tix at 50bucks a pop...

Well I could get 2 lawn tix now for 30 bucks...
    What the heck is that???
Why were the presale tickets 50bucks for one and a week before the show the tix are only 30 for 2... I mean I understand why, but I feel cheated and lied too anyways....

Had lawn tix only been 15bucks back then I totally would have just said lets do lawn... but at 50 it made sense to spend some more and sit closer...

All I can say is, this concert better be good and even if it is, I garuntee I will never support coldplay ever ever again. Ugh....

That sucks. Usually tickets are cheaper the day before or the day of the show for lots of bands, not just Coldplay. It's just an easier way of taking the remaining tickets off the venues hands or something.

I became a rather hardcore Coldplay fan due to their Viva La Vida cd and I went to the Viva La Vida tour last year because of it. It was incredible and I was rather surprised how good they actually were live. I paid somewhere in the high $90 per two tickets. This year it was going to cost me $112 per ticket. Their ticket prices are outrageous, even though they are good live. But for $112 a ticket? It's not like they are a classic, legendary rock band where I can see those types of prices being justified.

    When is your show?

When I see clips of their Viva La Vida tour, especially the confetti scenes and stuff it really makes me want to see them live. It just seems like an emotional and alive show. Granted I feel like a total idiot for paying what I did, but luckily I paid that a long time ago and have kinda forgotten it and I'm sure the concert will wipe my remaining anger. haha.

I'm going May 20th. Next Wednesday.

I'm actually not as big of a fan of the new album as I am of XY but I still liked Viva La Vida despite a lot of the hate it got. The only thing I really despise about it is that its been re released in like 10 formats already lol.

    They're good live.
But I paid $150 to see them.
A decent international act, for example, Iron Maiden, Linkin Park, will usually cost you between $90-$110 in Australia.
Coldplay are jerks basically. I like their music, except for the copious amounts of filler.
But frankly I don't think I'll be seeing them again, unless they do a serious rethink of how they're ripping their fans off.

I don't think it's them as much as it's EMI riding off their success. Throughout their career, they've proved to be pretty nice guys, but I don't think they get too much of a say in such monumental decisions.

I thought touring/prices etc are lik the only are where labels can't really interfere?

Yeah it wouldn't be the label putting up the price, it would be the promoting company. And Coldplay would still have say in it i think.

Think of it this way, you can wait to see if tickets are gonna cost less, or you can pay the original amount up front. Lets say that the extra cost incurred is for the 'safety' of actually having a seat reserved for you.

Edit: Also, record labels do have a say in touring.

I'm actually curious why a band as successful as coldplay that can sell out shows at over 100 a ticket even still connects them self with a label...

The independent world has proven that you don't need a label to exist, especially if you you are already big and have your fan base.

Maybe I don't understand how everything works in the music industry, but I'd say a smart financial decision for a band as big as coldplay would be to ditch the label. Then they could prbly charge half the price on everything and make the same profit!

Maybe they have friends at the record label :p.

In all seriousness though, it would probably be a smart decision. Though, at the moment they're one of the highest making bands, so I'd assume they're fine with how they're going at the moment.

Also, they probably have a deal with the label that they have to do another few albums or so.

Well so in all honesty, I just went last night and I don't regret it at all. I wouldn't pay that much again but for a one time thing it was amazing. Everything was just beautiful and it sounded so clear and perfect.

He messed up on the piano some and gave up at the end of the song which I think is great because it shows how real they are and it was just funny.

He really is a funny and kind man. I was only sad because they played 2 songs up on the ramps and 2 up on the lawn so it was like... we payed lots of money for you and you are leaving us... but it still great.

If I could get lawn tickets for 10 bucks like they are selling em for now the next time they come I'll prbly go, or if I can get 50 dollar seats, thats not bad for what its worth. but 200 for 2 tickets deffiantly won't be in my price range again, I'm just not angry about it anymore :)
