Coldplay frontman Chris Martin is preparing to retire from music - because he believes rock stars should call it quits before reaching their mid-30s.

Martin is adamant the Yellow hitmakers will step away from the limelight sometime in the next few years - to ensure they are on top of their game when they leave the music industry.

But he insists that until he and his bandmates take their final bow, they will continue to put out as many albums as possible.

He says, "I'm 31 now and I don't think that bands should keep going past 33.

"I don't believe in time off. We've still got most of our hair, we can still fit into our musical trousers and we've got to make the most of that."

What is everyone's opinion on this?. Do you think that rockstars should stop while they are ahead?

Personally i dont think that is right, Look at AC/DC for example i don't like them but they just brought out a new album. NOFX who are one of my favourite band's have been together for like 25 years now. As long as you can still make good music there is no reason to stop until you are dead as far as i'm concerned.

I agree with you, but I also feel that if a band like Coldplay feels like they are too old then that is their call and I don't disagree with them calling it quits either.

What is the source of this article? I can't possibly see this happening. If this is true, Chris Martin is officially an idiot.

Obviously they spend too much time with Jay-Z now.

Translation: "I've made enough money to live off of for the rest of my life, therefore I don't think I should continue to put any effort into music."

Chris Martin is sounding an awful lot like the next Gene Simmons.

It shouldn't be whether he has enough money to live off of or not. It should be if he has any inspiration left to make music. He shouldn't view his musicianship limited by age, but rather his creativeness and if he has anything he can contribute musically with all of his heart.

Well, maybe he figures he'll be at that point by the time he's 33. I think what Tasta said is a bit hasty, unless I've missed something else Chris Martin has said.

Yeah, I'm sure the fact that he has a wife and kids doesn't factor into any of this.

    Jesus, people.

It makes a lot of sense, he could always do something else in music, though, but I don't think he's very interested in other people.

    I don't like them, anyways.

On an unrelated note I just noticed how the article refers to them as "the Yellow hitmakers"... I thought they'd had more recent hits that were as least as well-known, hah.

That's not true, the guys have always been about having fun with their music and are very modest. Chris Martin is nothing like that, Coldplay are one of the bands that REALLY care about their fanbase.

This would suck, but at the same time I think that its better to go out while you're great then keep going until you're so bad that your fan base has abandoned you. I just hope that the band calls it quits when they're ready, not just because they're 33.
