Chiodos, this is not just a band that I just like. This is a band that I love. No, not because of Craig Owens because honestly I hated his vocals with a passion but I learned to look past it and block it out so it’s almost like he wasn’t there for me. Musically, they are one of my favorite bands of all time. Their guitars are in your face, the piano is beautiful and melodic, the drums are top notch and the bass is aggressive. Since the departure of Craig Owens, many of their fans wrote off new singer Brandon Bolmer and said Chiodos will suck and they should change their name and never play “Craig’s songs”. I however think Brandon Bolmer is the superior vocalist. I’ve only heard two songs from their upcoming album Illuminaudio (Modern Wolf Hair and Those Who Slay Together, Stay Together) and I already like them more than their debut All’s Well That Ends Well and Bone Palace Ballet. Now below I’m going to post a song below featuring old vocalist Craig Owens and one of the two songs released so far featuring Brandon Bolmer. What is your opinion? Brandon or Craig? They are amazing in my eyes. Especially now. I don't think they get the attention they deserve from people OUTSIDE the scene. It would be amazing if they were to tour with Linkin Park again
I hate Craigs singing, the ONLY thing I dig is Cinematic Sunrise for him, but Brandon made me like Chiodos, I couldn't stand their old stuff.
The first I'd ever heard of the band Chiodos was when they were the opening band at a LP concert I went to in St. Paul, MN in Feb. 2008. In all honesty, they sounded like one of the best live bands I'd ever heard. The dude's vocals were intense. He was really aggressive and also had ridiculously good screams. Their instrumentals blended heavy guitars with piano pretty damn well, too. Then Coheed and Cambria played next, right before LP. They were just not good at all haha. Then, of course, LP blew the roof off of the Xcel Center. So I get home that night and do a lot of searching for Chiodos, only to find out that they are somehow some emo punk band that sounds terrible on their studio albums. Nothing like I remembered hearing a couple hours earlier. I didn't know if it was the fact that I was 10 feet from the stage in the pit, or if they were actually much, much better live than in studio, but it was a big letdown to say the least. Sorry if that pisses off anyone who's a fan of the band. The only song I can get into on any of their CDs is Baby, You Wouldn’t Last A Minute on the Creek. That song sounded incredibly badass live. It sounds incredibly wimpy on the record, but it's still some good music.
They are better live for the most part but this new material may change your mind. Might want to check that
Because I've heard a lot of bad Coheed reviews SPECIFICALLY from the tour they did with LP, I'm just sticking with that was a bad time for them because they are fucking awesome live when i've heard em. But either way, their albums are epic.
