The Chicago Sun-Times has posted an article on their website, covering Linkin Park's marketing ventures associated with their music. The article covers the recently launched fan club conventions, live concert downloads, charity donations and more!

Read an excerpt from the article below -

    1. Concert downloads

Included in the price of your concert ticket is the cost of a digital recording of the concert. Linkin Park has teamed again with Base Camp Productions (the techies who pioneered “official bootlegs” from Pearl Jam, followed by Tori Amos, Kings of Leon, Sonic Youth and others) to provide ticketholders a mix of the show they just saw, ready for download within a few days.

At the show, fans will see a text message code displayed. Send the text, and Base Camp (basecampproductions.com) responds with information on where to go for the download. Shinoda said other shows on the tour will be available for download for an extra cost.

“I wish I could have had the opportunity to take home a souvenir recording of the time I saw Alice in Chains at the Palace back in the ’90s. I saw Anthrax and Public Enemy play together. That was one of the first concerts I ever saw, which was the Killer B’s tour. I remember seeing Pearl Jam playing,” Shinoda said. “For young people, I know they don’t necessarily remember a time when this didn’t exist, but for those of us who have that kind of perspective, it’s something that’s exciting and I feel like we take advantage of it.”

I didn't know about that ticket-pricing system, didn't know that the band had a hand in it that way. :3

I don't mind the $1 donation to Music for relief, and i already guessed that the tickets prices were pricier this time around because they added the price of the DSP to the ticket prices.

But the VIP ticket that doesn't even come with a ticket is ridiculous. But i'm not complaining and don't think anyone would find that a bother because it is very optional. You don't need VIP parking if you're smart and all the extra perks don't sound that good. I guess its a new thing they're trying out. I would love to see if it was a success or not. That would be funny if it was.

That article is hilarious. This person falls into the category of people who are so far at the end of the spectrum in their hate for the band that it is a crime for any sane and logical person to take anything they say seriously because it is impossible. Their opinion is too biased to be relevant.

I didn't think that article was too out of line. Most of what he said was right, actually. He called out LP for being simple and angsty, which they were for their first 2 albums. Then he says they can possibly move onto artsy rock, but doesn't think they can do it so quickly.

I'm not sure what he was talking about with Mr. Hahn, though. That part confused me.

That was what i thought too. Compared to the new stuff, for the first time ever, i finally heard and understood how much dated the HT/Meteora stuff sounded. Not that they weren't good stuff, but they just don't fit the band anymore as they're no longer in that stage of their life. At least the angsty simple part. But the rest of his crap was pure bullshit and stupid to be worth talking about.
