I really hope so too. My biggest fear right now is that if they release another relatively safe-ish LT/MTM part 2, it might signal that the guys don't really really feel the need to push themselves further than that. I hope that they haven't decided that their new method of writing is all the challenge they need, and that they try to make this album really push into places here they haven't gone before.

Also, that's not how you make a peace sign Chester!

I see more people do it like that then the "correct" way.

Anyways, nice update. I enjoyed getting to see Chester giving the update this time. The fact that the band keeps switching formats for these things keeps them fresh and exciting IMO. Also, I thought it was really cool that they used Heartburn. Even though it's really short it's probably my favorite song on LPU 14.

Aw damn that was as underwhelming as a studio update can get. Well, it's definitely a 2017 release no doubt about it.

All these little updates show how excited and confident they are over this new album, I love it. I haven't really seen that from them to this extent before. I know the updates haven't revealed much information, but the band keeping the fans informed each month makes me as thrilled as they are. If they weren't stoked to let everyone hear what they're making, then we wouldn't get these constant tidbits of info.

I still can't pinpoint how far along they are or what kind of album they're making, but that's what's keeping me anxious. Soon enough we'll know though, no rush.

Well, at least I discovered Heartburn from this thread.

    Hadn't heard the track before.

So this 'update' is not to give any new information on the album or say anything different than what they've said about previous albums, it's to keep it on our minds.

Note that LP have usually considered any 'challenging' thing that they do to be challenging to them, as opposed to making music that is challenging to listeners in the grander context of music today.

They're challenging you to believe that their studio updates are substantial.

I'm more than happy to wait. They were able to throw LT right on the table in such a short time. I personally love it; however, there are some forgettable tracks. I thought THP was cliche, predictable, and generic (one mans opinion so don't jump on me fools!) There is some good stuff on it though. I honestly don't know what the fuck to expect with this new one. I really think they are challenging themselves and we may be in for quite a surprise/treat! Fingers crossed....

Why is Zack Snyder still making movies after the debacle that was your signature?

    The world will never know.

After this studio update, to me, it kinda feels like the overall album could sound a bit like the style of Heartburn.

I agree. LT is one of my favorites of theirs, but as Mike said; "it's a short, firecracker album". In THP's case, I felt that some of the songs (All for Nothing, Wastelands, Until it's Gone) were too formulaic of them. There were others songs that were new, exciting and felt that they were challenging themselves, but as a whole, I thought the writing left a lot to be desired.

This time around it seems like they're focusing on their weak points first. THP was more about proving a point, here they not only want to challenge themselves but more so the fans. Though that's a bit impossible to some unless it sounds like a carbon copy of Hybrid Theory.

Studio updates are generally considered news. Unless we've decided we're going to just change that on a whim.

I'm kinda skeptic of the new album after THP. I felt like THP had a lot of missed opportunities in terms of complexity. There were good songs like UIG and Rebellion but I felt like the album was largely forgettable. Nothing really reached out and demanded my attention. Did anyone here notice that A Line in the Sand was pretty much a carbon copy of Guilty All the Same? I'm not saying THP a bad album by any means and it certainly was interesting to see live. I just feel like it needed a little more time in the oven. Hopefully, this album will push the envelope a little more.
