I find the nature of a lot of these threads.. or maybe the Linkin Park fan-base itself, to be markedly different than my own experience: -It seems like a sizeable percentage have their opinions on a band/album/song evolve continuously over time.. Which often equates to a gradual down-turn in their overall assessment. (Interestingly, a study found that merely attempting to justify or explain why you like something can cause you to like it less.. to the point that merely thinking about something or analyzing it at all is more likely to decrease your enjoyment of it, rather than improve it.) -Generally speaking, it takes me 2 or 3 listens of a song to really like it. After that point, my opinion/enjoyment tends to remain largely unchanged for the rest of all time . There are a handful of things that I'd grown out of by my early twenties, but for the most part.. my enjoyment of any music since then has been largely static.. Over-listening can occasionally dull the depth of my emotional response to the song, but I don't find myself retroactively disliking things.. regardless of whether or not my tastes are improved or refined, my initial liking of something often negates any post-added criticism.
Trying to lower my hype because I don't want to overhype at all and be disappointed. Hopefully these couple of weeks fly by for me because I get out of school 5 days before THP.
How about everyone just stops thinking an album they haven't even HEARD yet will be good or bad. It's really silly.
Im just having fun and I really think this will be their best album yet. I think I have the right to say that
Oh wow. I can relate to this. And to the guy who said it happens every cycle, well I haven't seen this much negativity before an album release. It's just my opinion.
Kinda off-topic but isn't there a listening party for The Hunting party being held in LA tomorrow? (It's 11pm in my time zone). Maybe we'll get some news regarding the rest of the album very soon.
I'm currently in a dilemma where I want to and don't want to listen to any upcoming previews of new songs. I kinda want to listen to see how heavy and different the songs will be. I kinda don't want to listen cause I want it to blow my mind away when I get to hear them fully. Ahh. Problems. Problems. Too many problems!
Don't listen to the previews. You will figure out soon enough how heavy and different the songs will be (at the latest, on 13 june) and 30 sec snippets just ruin the surprise. Trust me, the feeling of discovering a full album of new music is so so much better than discovering the full versions of teasers you are already familiar with
I'm gonna be at the concert. If they play any new stuff (including GATS and UIG) I'll try to record it for you guys
I, for one, am thoroughly looking forward to the album. People who are saying they've lost their hype after hearing UIG, come on. Seriously? When Wretches And Kings released, people grew apprehensive about the simplicity and corniness of some parts (front to the back and the side to side...). The album released and went on to become arguably the most respected Linkin Park album. When LGM was released to us here on LPA, people were very underwhelmed. Then Living Things released and everyone had (at least initially) an eargasm. Moral of the story: people can be as apprehensive as they want, but when the actual album releases, almost everyone will love it. One would think we'd all know that by now.
This. Also looking forward to the album of course and even think it could be my favorite record of the band
