It's been a while since our last Billboard post, but to recap what has happened over the last few weeks: - Minutes To Midnight has hovered around the #50 spot on the Billboard Top 200. - "Shadow of the Day" failed to hit #1 on the Modern Rock or Mainstream Rock charts, making it the second straight single to do so after "Bleed It Out". The song peaked at #9 on the Hot 100. - "Given Up" has entered the rock charts but has not yet cracked the top ten on either chart. Billboard Top 200 Albums Minutes To Midnight - #47 (Last week - #53) Billboard Modern Rock Chart Shadow of the Day - #12 (Last week - #9) Given Up - #13 (Last week - #17) Billboard Mainstream Rock Chart Given Up - #14 (Last week - #14) Lastly, thanks to forum member general41391, we've gotten a look at the Billboard Catalog 200 chart. This chart is a listing of albums that are too old to place on the regular album charts. This week, Hybrid Theory placed at #57 on the list, selling 2,992 copies in the U.S. Official U.S. sales totals for the album are at 9,391,674 since its release in 2000. Meteora hit #80 on the same chart, selling 2,479 copies, bringing its total sales amount to 5,568,205 copies since 2003. The full list can be seen here You may ask "I thought Hybrid Theory was certified diamond (10x platinum)?", and I can tell you that they were. Certifications such as gold, platinum, diamond, etc take into account the amount of albums shipped to retailers, and not an exact total of sold copies (since each store typically has copies of the album on their shelves that have not been sold). Hopefully this clears things up. Thanks to general41391!
holy shit so HT sold over 2,000 last week? that's really cool in my opinion. it's a lot to me considering it's so far after it's release. nice! cool stats
Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon has been out for 35 years and still sells over 10,000 copies a week.
Pink Floyd also has a huge fanbase considering how old the band is and the people it reaches. I don't know if you can really compare LP to Pink Floyd. Everyone likes Pink Floyd in some way. Esp. if you smoke. Great job LP
Actually, Billboard has a limit on how long an album can remain on the charts. Notice that there's never any old albums on the Billboard 200? That's because they aren't eligible for it after they've been out for a certain period of time. DSOTM could sell a million copies next week and it wouldn't be on the charts. You have to look at the Billboard Catalog 200 chart (which is only available to Billboard subscribers) to see sales that include albums that are past their eligibility period (such as Hybrid Theory, mentioned in the first post).
Minutes to Midnight has sold 2,348,436. Its been selling around 12,000 - 15,000 per week for the last month. It will probably go 3x Platinum by the end of the year, though it is not certain.
About Given Up not hitting the top ten yet: Does anyone know, why the video isn't on MTV by now? It's been almost 2 month since it aired on lp.com... (or is Germany the only country where it's not on tv?)
It's been on TV for quite a while in most places, however it doesn't seem to get a whole lot of play, so you've probably just never seen it when it was shown.
No, I looked it up at MTV Germany and it's not on the playlist there nor on the other German music channel, VIVA. It's just on their homepage, as far as I know... *sigh* edit: Just found out it'll have it's German tv premiere today
