I really need help setting up Xbox Live before Halo 2 comes out...and I a completly n00b when it comes to this computer stuff. My ISP is Yahoo DSL (ameritech.net). All my cable hook-ups are fine but I could never get my IP Address confirmed. I have a few questions... 1. Is GATEWAY Important? If so how can I find it out? 2. How can I find my Mac Address without calling my ISP 3. How can I find out my IP Address through my computer? 4. What is a host name? Thanks in advance for helping me.
I still try to connect but it says 'The Network gateway could not be reached. Math the IP Addreesed provided by your ISP.' or something like that.
IF YOU HAVE A ROUTER: If you plugged your Xbox into a router, all you should have to do is reset the router, and the Xbox will be assigned an IP address. That's what my problem was: I couldn't figure out why I couldn't connect or what my addresses were. But once I reset my router, my Xbox was assigned its own IP and I was good to go. You should consult your router's manual if you don't know how to reset it. IF YOU HAVE A BROADBAND MODEM: If you connect your Xbox directly to your modem, all you should have to do is put your modem on Standby mode for about a minute. Then turn the modem back on, and the Xbox should be assigned an IP. Consult your modem's manual if you don't know how to put it on Standby mode. Both of these methods worked for me.
Thanks guys I finally got Xbox Live up! My GamerTag is "HybirdSoldier" and I got Counter-Strike and Mech Assult.
