After two months of work, here is the finished result of my Burn It Down remix. The original idea came to me when I realized that the original track had a little bit of a Depeche Mode/Tears For Fears vibe with Chester's vocals in the verse. I wanted to make a remix of the song that played up the song's 80s influences while giving it a totally new feeling altogether. A lot of research went into getting the song's 80s feel just right, including using a virtual Linn Drum machine, a Yamaha dx-7 emulator, Depeche Mode style choir pads, a SQ80 emulator [violins], special reverb effects on the drums, as well as speeding up the song's tempo to give it more of an energetic feel in line with most Electro-Pop tracks of the era. In all, I took inspiration from around 10-15 80s songs in general. All instrumental parts (except those sampled from the original song) were all composed and played by hand.

NOTE: I also sampled the main synth riff from Abba's "Gimme Gimme Gimme" (famously used in "Hung Up") to pay homage to one of the greatest disco acts ever. Hope you guys like it.

Awesome work man! Sounding great. Also, I think the research you did into the Linndrum and DX-7 sounds is really cool.

I did some similar research at the very beginning of the MMU Electro-Pop month in October, before I abandoned the 80s feel as "too hard to pull off" and took it in a more modern direction. So having been there myself, I know the effort it takes to try and nail that genuine 80s sound, and you really pulled it off! You've reignited my enthusiasm for 80s drums and synths and how they can still be used to make awesome music today.

    Good job man!

Loved the whole song and the glitchy snyths towards the end were great.

Okay, first of all i want to start with the drums
The drums are actually pretty good, one thing you could do would be - add a little reverb to the drums
kinda..1 or 2% reverb, that makes everything brighter, otherwise i need to say the drums start to fit in perfectly at 0:28, when the synth riff of Abba starts

k - synths, the synths still have the oldschool feeling, it fits in so awesome, i like it, nothing against it! good job on them

0:16 the burn it down synth starts
this ~ love it! one thing would be try to match the vocals with the volume of the riffs.
in the chorus the abba riffs starts and gets a bit lower, so you feel the chorus fit in perfectly with the volume.

the breakdown at 2:30 is awesome - a breakdown is everytime a nice thing - perfect

    the choir...the choir...THE CHOIR
damn i didnt expect that and suddenly
    the strings...THE STRINGS MAN!
    fuck i love it

the glitch at the end is badass
another thing would be here, when mike starts i would add a little bass with a little reverb with it
    so it sounds brighter again

okay all in once this is an awesome remix
    ending is fucking badass

    hope we will get more!!

Very good suggestions, I'll revisit the remix soon and take a look at what you said. The drums do have reverb, but I'll see if I can increase the reverb.

ah nah the drums are good, it just sounds so bright
there are many other ways to make it bright like changing volumes on differend sites of the speakers and stuff
    ;)
