"Britney Spears has been condemned for her next video, which reportedly shows the pop singer killing herself in the bath. The star will be filmed playing dead with a bottle of pills by her side when the video for Everytime is shot at the weekend, according to The Sun. But the stunt has been blasted as "stupid" and "irresponsible" by experts who fear the video could spark copycat suicide attempts by fans. The script sees Britney and her lover fighting in a hotel bedroom, before the 22-year-old singer is filmed in an overflowing bath with the open bottle of pills on a ledge. Marjorie Wallace, of the mental health charity SANE, told The Sun: "It's profoundly irresponsible to show anything that hints that you can take your own life. I know how influential pop videos can be." And Michelle Elliot, director of anti-bullying and child abuse charity Kidscape, is quoted as saying: "This is absolutely outrageous, totally irresponsible, completely stupid." Celebrity suicides have been found to be 14 times more likely to trigger copycats than those involving ordinary people. A spokesman for Britney refused to comment, according to the paper." Well, anyone who listens to Britney probably wants to die anyway Seriously though... She shouldn't be doing that. There are better ways to describe feelings than killing oneself...
Britney in a bath, eh? ! Stupid concept. Other videos which contain suicide don't actually show the main character killing him/herself, such as in AFI's "Silver And Cold". At least they have the sense to notice that there are many impressionable youth out there who may copy this stuff.
i dont get the human race. WHY would britney spears want to kill herself in her stupid video to some electronic pop freak song? the song probably has nothing to do with it. she just wants attention, even if it means a couple of kids dying and newspapers blaming her for it. thats all she wants. but you know what thought is really killing me? [...not literally...] that the kids who'll commit suicide will really believe in her and her fake boobs. but shes only using them to get attention, really. how unfair is that. i dont agree. im going on a hunger strike from now. no ill eat some stuff first then stop eating. hunger strike.
The song Everytime (The next single) is ####### awesome! :chemist: Anyway, I think the concept fits really well with the song. And whoever kills themselves just because they saw it on TV deserves to die anyway for their stupidity.
that offends me. no one should die like that i know people who have taken their lives and it hurts many people around them. this is totaly careless of britney she should not be doing this. its very lame that she has to have her character kill herself in a video just to get attenion becuase her music is so bad
Ok this is really stupid. As much as I hate Britney Spears singing, performing, and everyhint besides her body, she has a right to make a video with a powerful meaning, people kill themselves over lovers, Britney isn't promoting it, she's stating the facts. Either way, her video doesn't force a person to kill themselves nor does it force thoughts of killing themselves. A person makes there own decisions, and whether or not a video/song can influence that is a different story.
OMFG! Why do people care? If everyone copied what they saw on TV, the human race would have been extinct years ago. Yes, it's a lame concept, but people need to stop jumping all over and throwing a fit every time violence is seen on TV.
i agree. "omigod, britneys liek s0o0o0o my idol!!!11!! im gonna kill myself coz i saw her pretend to do it on her new video so that meens its cool!!!!!111!!!one!"
Erm... They haven't even shot the video yet so they can change whenever they want. Even if she did make a video with that concept MTV will just ban it anyway... I mean they banned Blink-182's 'I Miss You' video... Wait... She's already said that it wasn't meant to be suicide in the video but an accident. Also... They've taken that part of the video out of the plan...
