Well I think I just figured it all out. Mike and Chezy are really good friends right? And Mike said it was about a friend. When Chezy was a kid, he was abused by his father and had an alcohol and drug problem (coke among other stuff). But he overcame it and look at the good person that he is now. Im almost positive that it is about Chester and his problems and then overcoming them :chaz:

    it might be....

you know i gotta tell you guys something. this is why ppl like eminem are getting in trouble these days. people read too much into the lyrics, and interpret it as killing people, themselves, doing drugs, and other bad ####. its not about suicide. its just a song, and a damn good one at that.

    I HAVE SPOKEN! lol

but i dont think its about suicide. i tihnk its bsaically about trying to deal with your problems, but it definitely isnt as extreme as suicide.

That's incorrect about the abuse, chester cleared it up.

He WAS sexually abused as a child, but he cleared up that this was not by his parents. Just thought I'd point that out.

Mark! I put my opinions aside and listened. Guys this song IS self mutilation and suicide! I had a friend who cuts and this matches her so closely it's eerie.

"Memories consume, like opening the wounds."

Meaning the cut wounds on the skin, from self mutilation.

    "I'm picking me apart again.."

As digusting as it sounds, some 'cutters' pick at cuts to make them bleed again.

"You all assume, I'm safe here in my room.."

Many parents think that a kid wouldn't do this inside thier room, that they wouldn't mutiliate themselves when thier parents are around, but its actually the complete opposite.

"Unless I try to start again.."

Unless he tries to cut again..

"I dont want to be the one, the battles always choose, cause inside I realize that I'm the one confused."

When your a cutter, everyday is a mental battle to the point its confusing. However when your seriously depressed sometimes the "battles" choose you, and make you cut yourself.
    --
The rest of that verse explains how he doesn't know why he does this everyday and that he knows its not alright, so he's breaking the habit(cutting) tonight :p.

Mark your so right it's not even funny. I'll go ahead and disect the 2nd verse if you want me to.

Hell, I have nothing better to do.

    2nd verse:

    "Clutching my cure"

    The knife/razor.

    "I tightly lock the door.."

He doesn't want to be caught in the act of cutting.

"I tried to catch my breath again"

The shock of the cut hurts so much he can't breathe..

"I hurt much more, then anytime before, I had no options left again"

This cut wound hurt more then any cut before, and he did it because he had no other options left.

    ----
Can everyone else see this? It's as clear as day to me.

Add it to the fact that its a VERY personal song to mike and its about a friend who's family had some very bad events take place and it makes even more sense.

    Maybe his friend committed suicide?

Yeah. Thanks for pointing this out mate...a few good debates could come from this now.

Derek I know you said this earlier...but I'm steling it now...mwahhahahaha...

Do you think that the media could turn on LP because of this??? because the song could try to convince children to do this to themselves??? or maybe the opposite...or maybe none of them.

Personally I think that there will be some abuse from the media...and all those "politically correct" people out there. Kinda like blaming gun deaths on Rap/R 'n' B music...meh...it's all bulls**t if you ask me.. <_<

I also think its about someone who cuts them selves
but not suicide because they whole point of the song is that they broke the habit
    meaning they stopped doing it.
and the reason Chester is signing it is because Chester is the singer in the band. Mike cannot sing (well not as well as chester anyway) so i gather thats the reason Chester sings it.
If you just sit and listen to this song it has huge meaning behind it, it can have you thinking for hours just about it

    haha, aren't i always right? :p

i don't think the media would give it that much attention unless it was released as a single, which it won't be (maybe because they fear backlash?). the media isn't that intent to notice things like this when they aren't given attention to.

Haha, you made my name bold. Trying to make a statement? :chemist:

    ---

Now that I think about it... Derek and Mark are right. It's subliminally about suicide because it doesn't come right out and say that, but it's not about Chester.

That's why this music is so great. It can mean many different things. People are always going to relate to a song different from the next guy.

And about my comment regarding the sense of optamism in the chorus. I simply meant the music itself sounds like someone is overcoming something or realizing that they can overcome something. The way chester sings this song gives me this impression. Music is more than the lyrics it is also how they are presented.

A little off topic, aren't we?

broken habit: the vocals may have a sense of optimism to them, but i don't think there's anything of the sort in the lyrics.

Is there a kinda sounding gun shot in the beginning of BTH?
Just a thought. Kind of sounds like it to me.

I still think BTH should've been in Vice City. And I think Mark just pointed out another reason why

I think LPFAN05's theory is true. And he couldn't explain the song better.
