Amy Lee? Come on. On every live video from Evanescence I saw (even on Anywhere but Home) she needs to take a deep, noisy breath before singing each line. She sounds like she's running out of air or something. Have you listened to Within Temptation? The band is kind of the same style, but their orchestal arrangements are great and their singer (Sharon Den Adel) has a beautiful, soothing voice. AND she can pull it up live. I'm not trying to bash Evanescence but it just bugs me to see Amy Lee's name in a list with other GREAT singers like Chester, Brandon Boyd and Corey Taylor.
I do still think Amy Lee is one of the greatest musicians of today. Her vocal range is a mezzo-soprano wherein it is widely known in operas. She can reach from lower notes to higher notes. I like how her voice gets heavier and darker compared to sopranos. One thing also, she doesn’t mumble the words when she’s singing. You can clearly understand the lyrics and she’s emotional on stage. I believe that to be a good vocalist doesn’t just require how beautiful your voice is or how you reach those notes, it also depends on how you deliver and connect yourself to the audience and I admire Amy Lee for that. Maybe this is weird or I’m just defensivelol but what I’ve noticed to most of the singers who doesn’t just sing on stage but also plays an instrument is that they create noisy breath when they sing like Andrea Corr of the Irish band The Corrs. Maybe this is due to the fact that they exert much effort (energy and release more air) on stage compared to singers who just sings. For the Dutch singer Sharon den Adel, I can’t deny the fact that she has a beautiful voice inspite of the fact that she doesn’t went to a formal vocal training. I admire her that. It's just that I'm not so particular with band Within Temptation. And like what Luke said opinion is opinion. So, respect yo! Kalurky.
I just love the voice of Aaron Lewis from Staind What a voice that guys got. Chris Cornell is another fab singer. There just can't be one best vocalist, there are many good vocalists out there. Steven Wilson from Porcupine Tree fame is also one of my fav. And btw,,I prefer Lacuna Coil over Evanescence
Amy Lee is awesme Chester Bennington - LP Jared Leto - 30 seconds to mars Adam Gontier - 3 days grace Christ Daughtry - Daughtry Tyler Connolly - Theory of a deadman Brent Smith - Shinedown and ofc .... the GOD himself, DIO !
Russell Allen from Symphony X, awesome voice, amazing range Ronnie James Dio... No need to say more Rob Halford from Judas Priest, back in the old days though, now he's old and his voice is just not the same. Chester Bennington, the best rock singer on ANY band in the last 10 years Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth, amazing death metal growls, and a mellow beautiful voice when singing
My Favourites!!! Chester Bennington/ Mike Shinoda Corey Taylor (Stone Sour and Slipknot, he has an awesome voice, too bad Slipknot is not on my favourite list) Tim McIlrath (Rise Against, Definetly one of the Best punk voices today) Serj Tankian (System Of A Down, He's just so good and have a very special singin voice) Maynard (Tool and A Perfect Circle, Probaly best Vocalist ever) OZZY OSBOURNE Dalas Green (Alexisonfire, Such a strong and heartfull voice) Others: Shinedown, Skillet, Three Days Grace, Red Hot Chilly Peppers, Propaghandi, Disturbed
I really dislike Amy Lee. She is bitch. I mean you can say what you want but there is a reason why Evanescence have gone through so much line-up changes. Her voice is decent but being one of the greatest musicians is way to big of a statement IMO
Can't believe this hasn't been said yet (unless I missed it) but Chad Gray (Mudvayne, HellYeah) is a great vocalist in my opinion. He can sing melodies and at the same time rip your head off with aggressive singing. And Mudvayne concerts I've been to (3 so far) have been awesome. Such great live performances. His delivery on songs like Patient Mental, World So Cold, Death Blooms are just a few examples of how great I think this man is. side note: I met him before a concert once and he is so soft spoken you would never guess he had that kind of singing voice. Maybe he was just prepping his throat for the show? Also... Anthony Green - Saosin, Circa Survive - he has a very unique voice. I actually listened to Circa Survive songs a few times thinking "wow this girl has an interesting voice...woops its a guy" haha but still, his voice is amazing. If you haven't heard them before, check out The Great Golden Baby or Act Appalled by Circa Survive, or Seven Years by Saosin. Awesome singer imo. And obviously..chester and mike are at the top of my list.
