This thread has gone on far too long without Claudio Sanchez (Coheed and Cambria) the guy is fucking unreal. Also, all the girls of Eisley, Rodi Walker (Protest the Hero), Layne Staley (Alice in Chains), Hayley Williams (Paramore), and Daryl Palumbo (Glassjaw, Head Automatica) And I'm gonna rattle the cage a little bit and say if you're a grunge singer you don't get to play in the "best vocalists" list. I don't care what notes you can hit (or shriek like you're dying if you're Chris Cornell) if you can't enunciate you're out.
I was going to make an edit pointing that out but I figured I'd let someone else and then respond. I can generally understand him and he enunciated pretty well. I'm not incredibly familiar with Alice in Chains but from what I have heard I know the guy's incredible. He slips through the cracks as far as my dislike of grunge.
I see. and as far Claudio goes. Him,Craig Owen,Johnny Craig and Anthony Green are required taste. and I don't like any one of them lol. Well Anthony's work in Saosin is fine but other then that bleh
It's funny that you should say that last part after including Daryl Palumbo earlier and for the record I am actually a fan of him and his bands.
My favorite vocalists are: Chester Bennington [Linkin Park / Dead By Sunrise] Corey Taylor [Slipknot / Stone Sour] Sully Erna [Godsmack] Ben Sotto [Heavenly] Marky Chavez [Adema] Serj Tankian [System Of A Down] Fabio Lione [Rhapsody Of Fire] Rich Luzzi [Rev Theory]
He does have his loopy moments but for the most part he sounds pretty good, at least I think. I'm talking about like full on Kurt Cobain mumbling and grunting when I talk about not enunciating.
I mean, whether or not it's intentional he doesn't exactly have the most orthodox enunciation himself, and he does plenty of shrieking as well. When you look at it like that I don't think there's a massive difference between the two. It comes down to personal preference I suppose.
Well not the best but my favorite... In no particular order: Mike Shinoda (Linkin Park) Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins) Misha Zilman (Jet Lag Gemini) Tom Meighan (Kasabian) Thomas Mars (Phoenix) Kenna Kele Okereke (Bloc Party)
Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins etc) Cristina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil) Tarja Turunen (Nightwish etc) Jack White (Dead Weather etc)
I almost forgot Apathy... & Vinnie Paz Nice to see some one who likes his voice... So many people are Corgan vocal haters.
