As I listen to some Canadian artists, I'll make my Candian Artists rank; 1 Alanis Morisette 2 Avril Lavigne 3 Nickelback 4 Celine Dion 5 Shania Twain 6 Nelly Furtado 7 Three Days Grace Edit: 8 Simple Plan Was impressed by that band seeing them live before LP in Prague, I think I already knew one or two songs, but their show was very good and they had the crowd jumping a lot.
You would rank Nickelback over Billy Talent? Alexisonfire? The Tragically Hip? RUSH??? I don't even know what to say.
Not a ranking, but these are some of the Canadian artists I've dug a lot over the last decade or so. Purity Ring Death from Above (formerly Death from Above 1979) Grimes Metz Crystal Castles Baptists (if you like it heavy) Gorguts (if you like it very heavy)
I've heard about Purity Ring, but have no clue about the others. I like Nickelback mostly for their singles than for the rest of the songs, which are weaker, but for sure the singles are great, I don't know about any of the artists you mentioned, but I can take a look at Rush.
- Purity Ring (my overall favorite artist by far) - LIGHTS - Allie X (way too underrated, she makes fantastic pop music) Also Carly Rae Jepsen & The Weeknd, I'm not really a fan but I like their music.
Are you Canadian? The Tragically Hip are iconic. I suppose you might not be but then making a thread about Canadian artists seems kinda random. Not to mention you all of your choices were top-40 acts in their prime time. I also find it hard to believe you don't know Billy Talent. In the early 2000's they basically were Canada's pop-punk version of Linkin Park. Alexisonfire is a post-hardcore band that found relative mainstream success in 2004-05. And Rush, well they're up there with the all-time classic rock greats.
I'm not Canadian, but those I mentioned are the ones did best in my country in the 2000s. Billy Talent I could have probably heard of. I saw that Rush have sold about 40 Million records worldwide.
1. Mariana's Trench 2. Rush 3. Three Days Grace with Adam 4. Sum 41 5. Avril Lavigne 6. Crystal Castles 7. Low Level Flight 8. Death From Above 9. Simple Plan 10. Seaway HM: Michael Buble
1. Three Days Grace 2. Billy Talent 3. Sum 41 4. The Devin Townsend Band 5. Nickelback 6. Arcarde Fire 7. Rush 8. Danjo Jones 9. Alexisonfire 10. Death From Above 1979
My favourites (in no particular order) Alexisonfire + City And Colour Billy Talent Counterparts Silverstein Gorguts (one of the best Death Metal bands around) Comeback Kid + Figure Four (Andrew's other band) Purity Ring Despised Icon (Deathcore pioneers) ... I'm probably missing some though
For me it is Alanis Morisette and Celine Dion. These two artists are great. And I don't like Drake and I hate Nickelback.
Nickelback is not bad, it's a band that just fails to be consistent because most of the singles are great.
True, we can't all like the same stuff because otherwise it would be boring. I personally like some Nickelback songs, not all, but many people can think that it's a bad band and that they have nothing good to their name. In my view they work a lot on singles and leave the other songs behind, either musically and lyrically. I like them, in terms of bands they are on my top 10, but in terms of artists they are a bit lower. To be higher they'd have to have a lot of consistent albums and they have at least 3 pointless ones in Curb, The State and Silver Side Up (that one has only one true great song).
