Well according to the article it's intended to prevent the user from ripping the CD. And I don't see how they can "accidentally" load up a virus onto thousands of CDs to be distributed.

If this is confirmed, they're in some deep ####.

(Talking about the European version here, from what I've read, but not the US... I hear that ones fine. And, it only recently started becoming standard for Capitol in Europe.)

No spyware (doesn't send information on what you're viewing), shareware (isn't a free trial that later charges you), silverware (not used at the dining room) or ladies wear (no panties), no, but it does install software that makes it unable to rip files to your computer.

Altough whoever wrote that on their site is clever to make it seem like it doesn't install anything onto your system.

Anyways, I find it utterly asinine. It is completely legal to backup your CDs to MP3 on your computer. It is illegal to distribute them. I rip all of my CDs to my computer in MP3 format because I'm so paranoid I'll scratch my CD since they're (CDs) so sensitive now. That way I can rip the MP3s to a CD and play them in my car, since car CD players are worse than any kind at giving scratches or harming the read-surface of your CD.

So, from what I can gather, the 'contaminated' albums are being distributed in Canada?

What he said. Canada and the United States got the only 'clean' copies from what I've been told.

And weren't the Beastie Boys one of the several bands supporting Napster during the whole controversy a couple years ago?

Chances are if that big of a feature was going to be on the CD they'd know about it. Especially since they get advanced copies and all...

Wow. What is it with you and completely useless posts? How the hell does that contribute to this topic at all?

For one, it isn't a rumor since it's been reported by a large number of people. And they all live in different places. If this was a rumor, it would be one of the most coordinated, and not to mention pointless, rumors of all time.

So from now on, stop making useless posts to get your post count up and start making posts that contribute to the topic.

It wasn't a useless post. I stated that i don't believe in all of this like the rest, and i don't face it as something real, because it's not been proven. A rumor is something people talk and buzz about, no matter their number. It becomes a fact when it's proven.

And if i wanted to raise my post count, i would post like a madman in the game threads, which i do not.

It's not like the Beastie Boys or EMI/Capitol records are going to come out and confirm that they're putting crap on your computer. So the closest you're going to get to confirmation is 1) If you buy the CD yourself, or 2) If you listen to the numerous reports.

How do you suppose they get proof!?

Go out and buy the CD, put it in your computer and see what happens, you'll probably have your proof

Eh, pretty much. Exactly how do you want us to prove it for you? I know some people in Europe you can talk to who have found it out the hard way, if you like.

Regardless, check it out is a kick ass song, and I will probably burn this album, not purchase it

The single, you mean? "Ch-Ch-Check It Out" (I think it's called)? I don't really like it... then again, I'm not a Beastie fan.
