I was thinking of making a contest-like thread that consists of 2 bands each round, and allows everyone to vote on the better one. I'm hoping this might spark some interesting discussions and comparisons between bands. The two bands in the matchup may or may not sound remotely alike, but should be evenly matched. I'll also try to switch genres every round or so. This is strictly an experiment, so I'd really like to hear what you think of the whole idea.

So some possible matchups might include: Finger Eleven vs. 3DG, Yellowcard vs. Hoobastank, breaking benjamin vs. Cold, Atreyu vs. Killswitch, 12 stones vs. 30 seconds to mars, etc.

So for this round, everyone would list the positives/negatives and their reviews of each band, then they would pick the winner.

    Three Days Grace
Their lead singer Adam Gontier has a great deep voice, along with powerful guitar riffs and catchy tunes such as Scared, I hate everythinga bout you, Just Like You, etc. The only thing they have going against them is that they only have one album out and sometimes the songs get slightly repetitve.

    Finger Eleven
They already have three full albums out and I think each one is just as good as any other. All their songs are worth listening to and I think they switch between soft songs like Therapy, Thousand Mile Wish to harder songs like Stay in Shadow, First Time perfectly. They've also been featured on a couple of soundtracks which is always a bonus.

Winner: Finger Eleven, because of their better variety in sound.

Yeah I agree. Finger Eleven reminds me too much of a bad version of Staind. I just cannot get into their music. So I'd pick 3DG

Holy crap, you pitted two bands in my top four against each other, I hate you forever!

Three Days Grace: Amazing debut. Relatable and well written lyrics. Great guitars and drumming.

But I don't think they're better than what I think is the one of the most talented bands out there at this moment. Scott Anderson, along with Scooter Ward from Cold, is a lyrical genius. I own 'Tip', 'The Greyest Of Blue Skies' and 'Finger Eleven'. I'm not someone who was converted into a fan after "One Thing", I've been a fan of the band ever since "First Time" came out in 2000. I honestly cannot think of one of their songs that I dislike. James Black is an incredible and inventive guitarist. Rich Beddoe hits the durms with a fury I've rarely seen. One of the best bands I've ever heard. Note: DO NOT judge this band over "One Thing". it's really too ba dthey had to be recognized for a song that's soft. Listen to "The Greyest of Blue Skies". I dare you not to like it.

    My choice: Finger Eleven

    Finger Eleven.

Mark sent me The Greyest Of Blue Skies, and it's an amazing CD. Add the fact that the S/T ain't to bad either, and you've got a fan in me. And Slow Chemical is a badass song.

Three Days Grace reminds me to much of...well, every MTV rock act in the last 3 years. It's Cookie Cutter Rock, IMO. Too obviously angsty for my tastes too.

    Winner: Finger Eleven

I dont know what people see in Finger Eleven but most of their Self Titled CD annoys me...personally. I havent heard the other CDs and i really like "Slow Chemical" on The Punisher Soundtrack but the only full CD i've heard, i dont like.

Three Days Grace, on the other hand is one of my favorite bands, i've seen them live and they're awesome live. I've had their CD for about a year and i still listen to it, i really like it. I vote for 3DG!

I voted for Three Days Grace because I just seem to find myself listening to them more than Finger Eleven. I like Finger Eleven, but I haven't listened to everything they've done. Maybe I'll look into their older stuff, because all I have is the self-titled album.
