I am glad Obama is putting emphasis on education and research. In order for the United States to have a well, healthy, educated citizens, education and research is good for investing in future. Oh, really? Mind stating why you believe that? Keep in mind that for every Anthony Weiner and Bill Clinton on the left, I can find somebody on the right who did something just as immoral as them. And please spare me the only religious people can have morals bullshit. I've heard that argument a thousand times too.
To say that morality is focused on one side or the other is absolute bullshit. Sure, there have been scandals aplenty on the left, especially keeping in mind some of the biggest ones including President Clinton and Congressman Weiner. However, if you really want me to go through some of the Republican scandals, and show you that morality on either side can be lacking. Republican Senator Randy Hopper this past year lied about living with his wife when in fact he was living with a much younger mistress who was getting paid by a conservative lobbyist firm. Sometime last year a Republican senator from California was arrested for drunk driving. He had left a gay bar prior (big deal for some right-wingers). Quite some time a ago a Republican mayor from Minnesota was convicted for molesting two young boys. Skepticism remains regarding the authorization of the rape of children in Iraqi prisons to humiliate their parents by Donald Rumsfeld way back in '04. The conservative governor of South Carolina disappeared during one Father's Day weekend back in 2009, coming back admitting that he had an extramarital affair in South America. A year before that, the only Republican congressman from New York admitted that he had a child out of wedlock. This happened when he was pulled over for drunk-driving. George W. Bush himself has been accused of rape, having an affair, and having sex with a 14 year old when he was 26. Rudy Giuliani had an affair some time ago as well. Bill O'Reilly, not a politician but a conservative TV show host on Fox, was sued for sexual harassment by his producer. There are much more that I remember that I could list, but I thought I would keep the list brief. The point is, politicians on both sides make these immoral decisions, and even then immoral can be very subjective. Religious people aren't always moral, so get off that wagon because quite honestly, when you have bishops and priests who are molesting children, that argument loses quite a bit of validity.
I wasn't even thinking about hypocrisy and cheating when he wrote that, (I figured that was politics as usual). I thought he was referring to the multitudes of ironically named political groups with "Family" or "Moral" in their name somewhere, (ie the "Moral Majority"). Anywhere I see "Family," I replace it with "Patriarchy," and anywhere I see "Moral," I change it with "We've never opened an ethics book in our lives." Conservatives are as morally bankrupt; which makes sense when someone would worship something evil like the Bible without question. Conservative morality revolves keeping women exclusively as the baby-making slaves of men, keeping gay people in sub-human status, blaming the poor for their troubles, maintaining white supremacy, and wage war to maintain our own selfish interests. The word conservative is even supposed to mean that they're grasping onto outdated morals, while the rest of the world grows and learns from our mistakes. It sort of makes conservatism inherently immoral, as it is something that refuses to grow and learn. I wouldn't say conservatism is focused on morality as it is focused on the illusion of self-smug morality. And of politicians bending the word of God for their own aims. It's funny how God always shares the same prejudices as the person who speaks on her behalf.

But this is beside the point, I simply meant that the right generally upholds older American values and morals and supports the upholding the constitution, while the left (not necessarily in the wrong) tends to challenge those things. Louis, I said not exclusively, but primarily. And heck no, religious people screw up all the time. *raises hand and says pick me!*. That doesn't mean one can't strive for morality?
