Now you may thing this might be a rant on how terrible I think ATS is. But no, I actually like ATS. Heres what I gotta say. Yeah, sure. ATS is a new style, and you all may not like it. But there's people that do, like me. It's good for bands to try new styles every now and then. It helps them reach out to different audiences. I mean, if LP just stayed the same, making the same style of music, same sound, same voice, same instruments, it wouldn't connect with all sorts of people. I like how they added the techno-ish style in The Catalyst. I like how they made smooth, uplifting, slow songs like Iridescent and The Messenger. I like the styles in When They Come for Me and Wretches and Kings, how they made it sound like from different nationalities, at least to me. I like how they sang in another language in Jornada del Muerto. I like the medium-slow/fast sound in Waiting for the End and Burning in the Skies. I don't know why Linkin Park is losing fans just because of this. I've been a fan of LP since I was eight, and I'm 14 now. I'm not willing to let go of that just because they tried a few new styles, why are the fans who left leaving? But that's my opinion. And I'm not afraid to speak the truth.
For every fan they're losing, they're gaining two. My friend was never overly fond of Linkin Park, but he actually recognizes that talent behind A Thousand Suns. Really now, did you see the crowd at the Madrid show? Their fan base is enormous. Not to mention on Facebook, they have more fans than pretty much any other band or group. The only ones bitching about ATS aren't fans of Linkin Park, but rather, fans of the nu metal genre. That's the difference.
Well the problem is, everybody I know that is a fan of LP(in real life, which is a lot) won't stop complaining about A Thousand Suns. They say "I hate it! I want the old LP back! Why did they do that? If they don't make more like Hybrid Theory and Meteora I won't like them anymore!" That's basically all I hear from my friends. And yes, I know the fan base is huge. I went to the show in Minneapolis, and there was a load of people there. That's also another I've noticed. I tend to like a lot of styles of music, instead of just one genre. That's mainly because the people who are over obsessive over a single genre tend to get overboard when a band makes a song they hate. For example. Simple Plan - they make a few new songs that are not like their usual, and the fans go insane. I have an open mind with a lot of genres, and music styles, so I don't die if a band tries a new style, I actually like it. I mean yeah, my favorite genre is Nu Metal and Alternative, but I listen to mor ethan just that.
Haha, not really. Their fanbase has been getting smaller and smaller from 2006 and on. But if they are really making the music they like, then they shouldn't care about it.
El Muerto: Exactly. Mainly because the fact that everyone in my school used to like Linkin Park, but now that Hiphop/Rap/Pop is out, everyone hates LP, barely anyone at my school likes them anymore.
Yeah. Sometimes it's better to stick to a band rather a genre. Sometimes it's not. It all depends on your view of things
99% of the people I know knows and (maybe) likes only In The End and Numb. But that's ok, their prime time has passed and they have to accept it or become Limp Bizkit.
I started out only liking In the End and Numb. Then I found out about their other stuff, love at first sight. I don't plan on leaving Linkin Park anytime soon, no matter whay ...Or Blink 182. Although, with them, all you need to do to play theer songs is learn a few chords, play them in a few different ways and BOOM. You are now an official guitarist for them.
TannerWolf, I think you'll find that the majority of people on these particular boards love A Thousand Suns . It's misleading, really, because I myself have also talked to a lot of people who aren't too fond of the album. And TannerWolf, the St. Paul crowd really wasn't that impressive in terms of numbers. There were nearly 10,000 less fans there compared to the attendance for the '08 show. The music itself is definitely a factor for the decline in popularity, but I think another pretty big factor is how long they took to release M2M and ATS.
I wasn't exactly talking about the boards though xD And yes, I realize it wasn't that large. The floor looked to me like it was lacking, and where I was sitting, to the left of me, sections 114-116 it seemed were lacking people. I was in section 113, in the waay back corner.
The most hardcore Linkin Park fans are the ones who obsess online over the message boards. The fans who don't, just don't care about the band as much. I'm not trying to say that if you aren't a member of an LP fansite, you aren't a hardcore fan, but the reason these sites exist is so all the most extreme fans can come together. A majority of the people who aren't on some sort of fansite, are the more casual fans.
Well, I was just coming to express my opinion, that's all. I wasn't trying to put down the people that hate the album, I was just saying that I like it.
wud u love if there was HT ver1,2,3,4,5...and so...nope...den HT 1 wud lose its beauty of being a masterpiece...
The only community I've paid much attention to on the matter that isn't the LPA is AP.net, and (sort of) to my surprise the reaction there actually seemed more or less balanced between people who liked the album and people who disliked the album, although the staff review itself was negative. It's hard to gauge how popular something is based on message boards and what your friends say and stuff, anyway, because in different contexts people are either going to be more or less vocal or more or less willing to try and get something out of it. All you can really say is that based on the record sales they aren't as big as they were, and they most likely won't ever be again, but they still have a more than decent sized fan base.
