So I've just got my computer working again after formating, buying a new hard drive and some luck & now I just wanted to know what you consider the best and most efficient anti-virus programs available are. Please include spy-ware & ad-ware programs too, that would be great. Thanks in advance.
hey Joe go to www.filehippo.com they have great ones such as: AVG Zonealarm avast! home edition spybot - search and destroy CCleaner ADaware SE there all the ones i have
Spybot: Search & Destroy Adaware nod32 CCleaner -- Tom - ZoneAlarm is a piece of shit. Causes so many problems.
The best advice I can give you is to use Linux instead of Microsoft. As all viruses are Microsoft based and made using their software. On Linux you don't have any hassle with them you'd only get infected by really nasty ones and spy-ware does not effect (or infect) this operating system. I have been using Linux for about 5 years now and I haven't had a single virus attack it (all my other friends on Microsoft have 24/7). You can get Linux software off the internet or you can buy a Linux magazine and they usually have a new version every couple of issues. I hope this has sorta answered your question. I would not personally know about anti-virus software as I have never used it. ~ Miaz
I've never gotten into Linux, but I've booted into a Ubuntu live-cd at various times. Actually, I dual-boot Windows XP and Mac OS X (non-mac hardware. gotta love the osx86 project).
Meh my laptop at the moment is dual-boot XP with ubuntu (don't know which one as my dad comes in and updates it every so often). I used to use Mandrake though. I use Linux for the internet and XP for everything else really... Microsoft just annoys me... don't get me started on its stupidity.
Hah, I so agree with you about Microsoft. oO (actually, there's a few of us on here that think likewise). Constantly crashing and freezing on me all the time, so stupid. That's why I started to use OSX, I got sick and tired of Windows at one point and said fuck it, then I spent a week or so getting OSX running on my computer. ...oh, and to stay on topic, your best anti-virus would be Linux or OSX.
I totally agree. Hey yoou never know, I might actually be able to make an anti-virus programme that installs a little bit of Linux on your system for extra measures. (Like using the contraceptive pill with condoms ) I'm taking Software Development at college so watch out.
Pfft, don't waste your time. You'd have to completely re-write Windows in order to make it even slighly secure. And there would still be security holes, because MS's developers are plain horrible. Even if they stole some code and ideas from Linux (and even OSX), they'd still find a way to fuck it up. Software dev, good choice. Great to see a girl taking such courses.
Installing a little linux on windows wont do anything. You're still using the windows kernel, therefore, still vulnerable. Linux isn't just a fireproof, total shield keep in mind. And while on topic. Windows is hella useful, no compiling, no...anything like that... definately don't recommend anyone to linux unless you're sure they know a little BASH
Ok i admit it took a while for me to grasp linux, but if you have the basics and set it up to dual boot (use linux for internet and windows for anything else ie games) you'll get along fine. And hey compiling is fun. I love tinkling about (I just ask dad first so he knows what I've done incase I mess up my laptop) You don't also know how to compile to use Linux, you can just boot off a cd and BAM it's there for you to take advantage of and make into your own. And anyways, Linux is too easy for the computer geeks these days so they've moved onto something else. I'm also happy that Linux is becoming more known, one of my IT teachers and technicians at school didn't know what it was. My advice - If you don't want your computer crashing and being dumb on you use Linux. If you want all the frustration carry on and use windows and fill the pockets of Bill Gates. PS - I have had my laptop on for 6 months so far and it hasn't crashed or anything, it is also constantly connected to the internet and I have no viruses either.
Eh, if you think that's bad, my computer science AP teacher didn't know there was an astericks ( * ) on the number pad. *headdesk*
Even after doing that, I'll bet he'll be amazed that there's numbers on the number pad too. *rolls eyes* I seriously wonder how administration decides to hire their teachers.
I don't actually know, but they probably hire cute teachers and have sex with them in the little cupboards that hold the network servers for the whole school/college/university.
yea i used to have problems with it all the time(mainly with my games, and my internet), just some people i know, it works perfectly fine for them, so i thought i would recomend it. hmm kinky teachers...interesting.
