Have hope, I haven't seen them get this serious since prior Hybrid. I know u are probably in the same boat as me about TC, but I have a feeling "this is it". To get that descriptive to actually even match the reason TC lacked in the lyrical department and meant to be "heard" as a full album, makes sense.

Unfortunately for me, I had to go to work when this was posted. And I have to say these letters made from the band really made my day. My favorite part was in the second letter, when they had said that they were literally destroying who they were, so they could rebuild themselves musically, and try something that could become more phenomenal than anything they have ever done. Thank you Ana for finding this, because this is one of the best things I have read throughout the month.

I realize that I will probably get flamed for this comment, but I don't care. I think some of you are overreacting (positively) to something that is simply a message. There is no epic meaning behind these messages. They took a chance, like many bands do at various points. Sometimes they fail. Sometimes they succeed. But, come on, this is just a press letter, and it's not awe inspiring or epic or anything like that. And, for the record, I loved "The Catalyst." But just calm down.

 

I don't think you understand that these letters are like the official seal of LP no longer being a commercial, play it safe, band and becoming one who truly only cares about the music and the music only. A band as big as LP not having a professional press-release written for them is a somewhat big deal.

 

Why? I work in public relations and I don't see a reason at all why this is a big deal. This is done in many industries at various times and in various instances -- an executive, person of influence, or person who has some sort of public perception, will draft a letter and issue it to the press and/or fans. Why is this a big deal. I don't see it. You're exaggerating the importance of these letters. They're nice letters to fans and the press. That's about it. These aren't the next major literary advancement.

Relax, people. Calm down. Don't hype this thing to be far more than it is. Nine Inch Nails fans did that with With Teeth and look how that turned out. Sure, they all fooled themselves for a month or two that it was the best album ever, but once they stepped back and gathered perspective, they realized they overhyped everything. That's all I'm saying. Keep a level head. "The Catalyst" has me so excited for the record that I honestly love the style and I think it may be my favorite. But I can't honestly say that with certainty until I hear it all. And these letters don't make the album any more or less good.

Your comment is both uncalled for, and disappointing. Not once in the three pages that have been posted, has anyone overreacted like you just taunted now. The fact that they took more than "just a chance" with the record, and chose to write the letters themselves and not have someone professional write the letters for them, really shows how dedicated they are to their latest release. It also shows how much more mature they have gotten over the years as big of a band as they are now.

To be honest, the letter is pretty good and has all the right morals in it, but when I first listened to the catalyst, I was one of those people the went "wtf am i listening to". Then A day later i replayed it and now it's hit the 60's replay time on itunes. I think it all depends on how you listen to this song. The lyrics really get to you in the inside and makes you think when you listen to it that it feels like time just flew by. So I get where linkin park is coming from on that second letter. This is becoming one of my favourite songs and it makes me more anxious to hear a thousand suns.

That was an exhilarating read. What a class act the band is. Despite the content written however, I'm also of the notion that the band may possibly be "covering their asses" so to speak before the album drops and critics tear it to shreds.

Alternatively, I'm also of the belief that it is indeed a genuine message to the masses; letting the audience brace themselves to think twice before judging the new material.

Nonetheless, goodluck Linkin Park. Come Sept.14 ATS shall be a definite purchase.

 

I understand you are being realistic. I 100% agree with you here, but can you just for ONCE just turn a deaf ear, a blind eye and just allow us to have the one human defect discussed in the "The Matrix" as the architect said called "hope", and not be such a pessimist about it?

 

Ant has a point. How many times did Linkin Park say some variety of this before Minutes to Midnight? How much of it makes sense years after the fact? I'm looking forward to the new album too, but there's a huge difference in the band saying "We're doing insane, outlandish shit and throwing away all that safe commercial crap" and them actually pulling it off in any rewarding sense.

They might have made a truly genre breaking piece of musical genius, but like I said before, they could have also made some off the wall nonsense that they know won't perform "Linkin Park good" and are more or less readying themselves for the backlash.

but im all happy about that statement, because we finally have LP's point of view on ATS. All the time we were guessing, discussing and i got tired of it. Tired of the same comments, same discussions...now we finally have something new to discuss (and also mike's collaboration with bublé)...

Glad you guys like this. I thought it was an awesome idea when I heard the band was going to write this themselves. Very cool idea and they did a great job.
